I dont think I am hearing too much these days on the new system for MSP. Should I be listening to the old system too (800)? Are they using both at the same time?

Depends on where in B-Troop you are. Both should be running the same Talk-Groups, based on all the recent reports. Which tower (Zone) are you listening from ??

I have all sites West of Worcester programmed in. I was out and about today and seems to be doing ok. I have B, F and all the special stuff in there and seems to pick up well. Now I need to figure out what systems am I hearing the most on

A Common mistake is programming them ALL in one "Group"

If your radio captures a site that NO one is affiliated to, you will hear nothing.

Best bet is to ensure you have the "Wide Area" or Simulcast Zones and only as a last resort program the Inteli-sites (stand alones)

First are we talking the P25 System or the Analog (Legacy) or both

Either way, I would ONLY program each Zone (Site) in it's own Bank/Object

For Worcester County use Zone 8 Only, it is the Wide Area (Multi TX Site) for C-Troop. Unless you are in a bad/poor reception spot for Zone 8, you would not need Zones 9, 10, 13, 14, 15,

Zone 18 is primarily the Springfield/Holyoke Site

For the P25 System, concentrate only on Zones 24 and 25, which are the wide Area Sites. Again unless you are in a bad/poor reception spot for 24 or 25, then you won't need 26-30, or 70

If you put them all in, the chances of locking onto one of the Non-Wide area sites is probably due to signal strength. The Non-Wide area sites will ONLY pass traffic if someone is Connected (affiliated) to that site and on a TG that is authorized on that site. These are fill-in (Inteli) sites and will not carry the volume of traffic the Wide Area sites do.

Moral of this is concentrate on the Wide Area Sites

How would you set that up?

No, you have to set them up as two separate systems. One is Motorola Type II and the other is Motorola P25. Unfortunately, you can't set up different sites as different system types. If that makes sense.

I was out in Springfield a couple of weeks ago and heard both systems. They appear to be cross patched, so traffic on one is heard on the other. I heard a B Troop unit on the Type II system and it was cross patched on the P25 system.

What I do is set up the system with the sites I want and Groups with all of the Talk Groups I might want to hear. On Troop B sites, I listen to Troops B, C, and E, as well as the statewide Talk Groups and DEM police, as well as any local departments that might be dispatched by MSP.

I duplicate that in both the P25 and the Type II systems.

What ever system that will letme hear them. Can i do both in the same system? Im using a uniden bcd

OK thank you. That is along the lines of what I was thinking. What about tower sites out here? What ones would be good to use in Western Mass?

Exactly a ECPS92 says. Program in the Primary sites, you can probably ignore the fill in sites. If you find you are losing the data channel in a particular area, you can add the fill in sites later. For the P25, go with the North and South Simulcast sites.
