Hi guys,

Ill be driving across MO next week on my way to Southern IL.

I would like to know what the status of MSP radio is these days and maybe someone could let me know what freqs and/or trunk systems I will need to listen to MSP for my entire route.

Also, if someone could let me know what sort of numbering system that MSP uses for their radio units.

For the St. Louis area the Troop C freqs to listen to are 42.14 and 42.10.
Unit numbers are their car numbers. It can range from the 100's to 900's.
I have neighbors that have car number in the 600s and the 100s.

Troop A to Howard/Cooper Cty.
Troop F to Montgomery Cty.
Troop C to Perry County
Troop E to ??

Not sure how far you're going down I55.

be sure to program the Mobile Extenders (148.6).
and the Mobile Relays, as well as the Air-to-Car freq.

The Relays are Low Power, but can pick them up sometimes.
Also I hope you have some kind of external antenna, as you wont hear a whole lot without one. Unless you're close to the Troopers/Dispatch.

MSHP numbering is:

Col. and Asst. Col 1 - 2

Majors, Captains, Lts. 3-99.

Patrol Troopers 100-999, another block in the 1100s, and yet another block in the 1200s.

DOT (18 Wheeler Police) are 1500s.

Also while listening you will know what Troop a trooper belongs to by how the dispatcher answers him/her, or how he/she calls in.

Quick example if you hear "Jefferson City 123", then 123 is out of troop F.

MSHP ID tags:
Troop A= Lee Summit 42.920
Troop B= Macon 42.820
Troop C= Kirkwood 42.100 / 42.140
Troop D= Springfield 42.060
Troop E= Poplar Bluff 42.940
Troop F= Jefferson City 42.640
Troop G= Williow Springs 42.380
Troop H= St. Joseph 42.400
Troop I= Rolla 42.580

The input channels for troops as well as Relay Towers are listed in the database under department of public safety in the state of Missouri. But the dispatch channels listed above are the ones with the most power, and the dispatchers always repeat what the trooper said or what is going on, so you will know what is going on just may only hear one-sided converstations.

One last note all Missouri State Trooper cars have on board laptops which allows them to run plates, get dispatched to calls, etc via Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) so the radio traffic is low, and only used if a trooper does a traffic stop in a CAD deadspot or is driving and can not type and drive at the same time, so do not think something is wrong with your scanner if you do not hear much of anything.

Hope this helps you on your trip, and have a safe one.

I keep seeing people posting 42.92 for Troop A (Lees Summit), and I see it in the database. I don't know where they got that info, but it is incorrect. Troop A rural uses 42.86 for dispatch and Troop A Metro uses 42.94 for dispatch. Both are P/L 203.5. Maybe sometime in the future they may change, but that is what they are now and have been since the freqs were changed a few years ago. I can see the rural tower from my house, and it will trigger the close call on my 996 everytime, they have never used 42.92 that I have seen or heard.

You're a little late to the party..

I know Troops D, and I for sure use 148.6.
I assumed, it was the same across the state, but since they use 154.905, for Troop E, seems like they use at least 2 different frequencies.
