MSP Questions

I was out on the west side of the state Monday (my dad mystery shops for Olga's so we go out to GR & Portage a few times a month), and I had a few questions that came to mind.

1) How are the MSP units for Grand Rapids (Post 61) dispatched? I hear them talking about grabbing "city preps" but the freq i have for MSP (154.665) was silent the entire time. The GRPD dispatch frequencies had no 61xx units on it and the D6 South talkgroup had no mention of 61xx. So was I in GR on a unusually quiet day, or am I missing something?

2) Same for Kalamazoo- Are they dispatched by the county? I didn't hear anything in the Kal area from either Post 51 or 57.

Disappointing day, I know.

Did you try the Grand Rapids local freqs or Kent Co.?? In some areas MSP is dispatched by the county.

Yeah, I was scanning those too, although I wasn't scanning the north end of Kent County since the furthest north we went was 28th St.

I hear most of the MSP cars here in the Grand Rapids are dispatched by District 6 Headquarters

A lot of the time it is quiet, then there are other times it is busy. I hear a lot at night. MSP usually keeps a close eye on the construction on 131 going north out of town

MSP is very busy in Kent County. Plug in all MSP
District 6 talkgroups.

60 South is main disp tklgrp. 60 North is for all
posts in Dist 6 other than GR and Rockford.

MSP 610A & B cars are GR freeway patrol cars and dispatched by 60 South and GR PD on 155.79.

MSP cars using 60 North Tlkgrp are dispatched by the county they are in.

60 South can also dispatch MPSC cars.

Any specific frequency questions for Kent County, let me know.

Thanks for the info bergg, i think i will have to put everything for District 6 in 1 bank. I have 3 scanners going here all the time, but on my 96 I lock out the bank for all the local departments and let my 95 and 2052 pick those up.

They enforce MI laws pertaining to trucks using MI roads.

The Michigan Public Service Commission is responsible for the insurance and safety regulation of the intrastate for-hire trucking industry and the rate and consumer protection regulation of the intrastate household goods moving industry. The Commission processes applications for new or expanded operating authority, registers intrastate motor vehicles and the vehicles of interstate motor carriers conducting business in Michigan, and maintains on file proof of insurance of the motor carriers.

I have lived here my whole life just about and I have never seen a car marked different than the MSP car and the Motor carrier....please if you can provide pictures....and it should say mpsc on the side of it somewhere

Yup, I've lived in MI my whole 58 years too.

Don't know if I can find a photo, but you'll find them at the weight stations out on the freeways
and many times they will be at the MSP posts.

Look just like MSP car, but badge on door has some white lettering saying MPSC.

hmm...I think you are thinking about the Motor Carrier Division.......I have never seen another car marked like a MSP car except the Motor Carrier Divisions......

That is what I meant.

They are sometime dispatched by MSP Post 60 in Kent County.
