Without putting in alot of talkgroups that I will never hear, what are the most active ones that I could put in to my 396? I live in Windsor and I have put 3 separate tower sites in the radio.....205, 206, and 209.
I am a real newbie when it comes to monitoring the MSP.

Leave it in ID SEARCH mode and see which ones pop up...

I have the 396 set for it as an Apco 25 system, it is hooked up to an outside antenna. Not hearing anything yet. Is my setting correct.

It is. Does it show a tower ID when you manually hold on the tower's control channel frequency?

I am not hearing anything on the control channel frequency. Am I out of their tower range?

You won't hear anything on a P25 control channel. Does it show a tower number? If so - you are getting it. If not, you either have the wrong freq or you are too far away.

209 is no longer on the air, you'll need to add the 701 frequency which took it's place. You'll have to listen to Detroit (assuming you can hear it).

Hearing Tower 206 intermittently. So I guess I am just on the fringes of the transmitter.

Thanks for letting me know about Tower 209. I will keep an ear on tower 701 which I can hear without a problem for any MSP talkgroups
