For those of us trying to get the LCN's for the MSU EDACS... life will get even more INTERESTING---- when rebanding happens, the MSU system will completely be changed, as there are NO freqs on it below 866......

This means what lil bit of LCN, and ID work we do have done, is going right out the window......

Oh well the joys of figuring out EDACS eh?

That will mean more work for all of us DB Admins when users start submitting updated information. Look at some of the other larger area trunked systems, Ohio MARCS, Michigan MPSCS, AEP, etc... Some of those systems will be a TOTAL nightmare once the rebanding starts happening.

From what I've heard, though, is that the Cleveland, Ohio area will be one of the last areas to go because of the proximity to Canada.

LOL true.. not to mention the entire Statewide Louisianna system,.. not only is it gonna get hit by rebanding, but the additional merging of 700, and eventual total migration to ASTRO-25 700.... but thats half the fun of trunked systems.. figuring them all out....

Dear GRE, and Uniden.. time to add 700 trunking, correctly to your scanners!

:)

Hey milf,

The summer has come to a close and now I will be going back to MSU.

Although it will be waste once rebanding occurs, I am gonna try to work on LCN numbering for the MSU TRS.
Besides homework, it will be something to do up there ;)

Just a note...All freq's between 866 & 869Mhz will shift down 15Mhz. For example, 866.050 will move to 851.050 ect....Lcn's should stay in line.

I discovered there are two radio sites for the MSU TRS.
I have already submitted the info to the RR DB, but wanted to make it available immediately in case anyone in the area is interested. They should be since this post has a fully confirmed LCN (see Site 2 below) for the MSU TRS :)

Site 1 - "Sessums Rd., Starkville"; Still working on the LCN, updating this post as info progresses
========================
01 - 866.1750 (LCN)
02 - 866.4250 (LCN)
03 - 866.7000 (LCN) (Control Ch.)
04 - 866.9500 (LCN)
05 - 867.2250 (LCN)
06 - 867.0375
07 - 868.0375
08 - 868.2500
09 - 859.0125 (LCN)
10 - 860.0125 (LCN)
11 - 868.5000
12 - 868.7500

Site 2 - "N. Washington St Water Tank, Starkville"
Confirmed LCN :)
=========================
1 - 866.5375 (LCN)
2 - 866.7875 (LCN) (Control Ch.)
3 - 867.1625 (LCN)
4 - 867.5375 (LCN)
5 - 868.7000 (LCN)

Seems the main users for this site are Starkville PD and the Oktibbeha Co SO.

Here's the deal so far today (Monday Aug 15)...

Could not find missing LCNs using the remaining, non-LCN frequencies for the "Sessums Rd." site for MSU.
So I did some searching using the Public Safety Service search on my BC250D.
Found the missing two LCNs being used:
LCN-09: 859.0125
LCN-10: 860.0125
I made changes in the previous corresponding post.

It works for the LCN order, including the traffic vocally :)
Wierd thing is, the two freqs are not registered with the callsign for the MSU TRS. 859.0125 and 860.0125, nearest to Oktib. Co. are under Nextel. Their fixed transmitters are in Alabama.

Could this be part of the upcoming 800 band reconfiguration??
...maybe early deals with Nextel??

T4Win

Hey guys, I don't have it running anymore, but doesn't t4win
with a discriminator tap give you all that info (LCN's) for an edacs system
in a few seconds?

I thought it did that for me in Jackson when I ran it in the past.
Is my memory faulty?

I dunno. I never got really technical with radio stuff. Heck I didnt even use the two radio method milf spoke of before in other threads. I used my one and only scanner - a BC250D.
And milf knows alot more than I do about this stuff. He says a two radio method is the easiest. Don't remember what thread(s) he explains it in.

If I remember right, the only LCN and frequency info that is transmitted between the base and mobile radios is that the control channel transmits a number (the LCN) to the appropriate mobile talkgroup. Then the mobile radios look up the frequency stored inside their "bank" and switch to it.
So the only info software may get for you is the current LCN being used by a talkgroup (my scanner tells me that "somewhat").

All this may be explained clearer somewhere else in the forums but, well, thats all I know.

Aha

Ok I see my error. Pulled up old copy of t4win, shows LCN order..but no frequency info.

I suspect it would be easiest to figure out LCN's late night/early am or other times with little traffic and/or only one active talkgroup.

Good thinking! absolutely what i did :)
If the system works the way I think it should, after a talkgroup talks for a while and stops on an LCN it should start back at the next LCN in line when conversation picks up again for that talkgroup, unless another group is using the LCN at that time
So having one or two groups running should work fine.

Btw, what system you working on?

None

None at the moment. But then it would be hard as I sold the pro-2067 which had the discriminator tap for t4win.

I was gonna see if you were because I travel between Starkville (MSU) and the coast every now and then. I live back in Ocean Springs and am attending MSU as of now.
Could help out if a system is on the way between them.
