• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a VHF MT2000 A4. I had the dealer program two separate scan lists, one for when I am in my county and one to scan surrounding counties when I am traveling. I have yet to figure out how to switch between these scan lists. I know how to edit scan lists from the front panel. Am I doomed to manual changing my scan lists when I am out and about?

Also I think I have a config error. If I am scanning and switch my transmit channel from a priority to a TAC channel the radio will not transmit on that selected channel. For instances, on a structure fire I would be communicating on a TAC channel but would also need to monitor Priority channel for updates from my dispatch center so I set the radio channel selector to my TAC channel but also enable scan. And ideas/input is always appreciated.

1) Scan lists are tagged to a particular channel (or "conventional personality"). Therefore, the scan list presently in use is determined by what channel the channel knob is on (known as "selected channel").

2) One scan list parameter defines what channel the radio transmits on if the key is pressed while the radio has landed on a non-selected channel. (This, in my opinion, should always be set for "SelChan.") Another parameter defines whether there is a priority function and, if so, whether it is fixed to a channel or follows the channel selector. (In my opinion, the latter should always be selected.)

It seems plain that there was a failure of communication between you and the person who programmed your radio. This is not uncommon where the user doesn't understand the radio and the programmer doesn't take the time to ask the right questions.

I figured it was a communication issue. In retrospect, the questions asked were few and fair between. I can live with the scan list issue being that my travel has diminished due to job lose but my other issue needs resolved. Fortunately, the gentlemen that did my radio is more than willing to resolve the issue at no cost.
