All,
Took the LIRR into town yesterday. The train passed the MTA barracks in Islip. While i already have the LIRR trains in my scanner I thought it might be fun to Monitor the MTA here at the Home HQ. I don't think it will exciting Hearing about a stuck gate at some crossing out east i thought it might be interesting. I'm in the middle of the Island not too interested in what goes on in the city- unless i'm there.
Do any of you have them Programmed?
Thanks.

I've copied Zone 1 as far north as Wallingford CT and it's readable along I-95 from the NY line to at least Niantic.
I'm guessin' you should be able to hear it on Long Island if the map is correct.
Pretty active especially during AM-PM commuter times.

Has MTA PD switched completely to the trunked system? Or are they still using the VHF conventional system in Penn station and GCT?

Can't say about Penn ,but MTAPD at GCT went to the trunked system back in 2018 when I was still the radio supervisor there. They run a simulcast system, so I can hear all calls from L.I to Port Jervis, but unfortunately that is for MTAPD only Fire Brigade and I am sure others are limited to just GCT or whatever site they affiliate outside at. The GCT trunk system is a separate system and a different system ID from the one outside GCT

I listen to all traffic for MTAPD from Dutchess Cty

You sure about that? We have the GCT site identified as RFSS 46, Site 46 of the 26E system, which appears as a peer to the other MRRS sites.

If it's a separate system, than what is the correct System ID and WACN?

Yes the Grand Central talkgroups (District 5) pretty much only affiliate on Site 001 and I imagine the GCT site 046 (I can't receive that one). Once in a great while they affiliate on the Site 021 (The Nassau site) and the Westchester site #081. Same goes for Penn Central talkgroups.

Will have to check unless they changed it from 2018. I know it was a standalone when they turned it on because of some internal fighting between MTAPD brass and the NYSP.
The 26D (Metro25) and 26E (MRRS) have been linked for quite some time now, so any friction between the agencies seems to have dissipated. It's not uncommon to hear Troop NYC on one of the MRRS sites from time to time.

And if I remember correctly (it's been a while), 26F is the console subsystem or some oddity like that. I'd have to do some decoding of the system again to verify.

I can only relay what I had to deal with back in 2018, even Eastern was unhappy with being caught in the middle of the complaints going back and forth between the 2 agencies. Possibly 26F was the test system to get the 700 channels up in GCT, and I do know that the new PD console in the GCT radio shop is off a Zetron subsystem located at Graybar connected to LIC by T1, which goes down a lot.

My personal opinion was it was MTAPD and NYSP brass were not playing nice with one another, and at GCT. I never quite understood why NYSP would ride the trains and MTAPD would respond by RMP. I lost my parking space to NYSP at one of the stations in 2019.

When I was down at GCT (which I loved), there was no interaction between the 2 agencies unless it was a serious call. MTAPD had it's corner and NYSP had theirs, and the National Guard had there own too. The radio shop lost some storage space when the N.G. took it over for a HQ.

Seems about what you would expect.
I was there last week and didn't see the NG guys. May have been their day off or maybe they aren't around anymore.

I guess it wasn't your parking space then.
