• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Have a mtr2000 for a Uhf repeater. Looking to hook an external speaker to it to place in the truck bay. Where do I connect on this unit?

There is a "service speaker" connection on the front, under the cover. It's the RJ-11 type connector on the left side, next to the BNC external reference connector.

I think the output is pretty low, I think you need to use the amplified speaker to get useable audio out of it.

From the MTR-2000 installation guide:
Service Speaker:
connects between the telephone connector on the Station Control
Module and an external speaker/amplifier (with a 6 pin molex connector)
via an adaptor cable; part number 0185180U01.

The speaker volume is adjustable by the software.

MTR2000 does not have a speaker or speaker output.

It does have a low level line out on the 6 pin connector. That has to be externally amplified to drive a speaker .

What am I thinking of then. Isn't there a slider for the volume. I've left the darn thing I carrier squelch a million times from the software. I have only used the test speaker. Maybe that's it. It's not the standard Motorola speaker.

There is a special Speaker HSN1000 via adapter cable 0185180U01 and to adjust volume and or turn PL on off you need, GMN6147b microphone with the 3 buttons side buttons. These options are for techs to trouble shoot and test the station, and not typically used the way I think you are describing to be used.

I really think a tone remote setup would be a better solution for you, if station is equipped with tone remote board. This way you could put remotes in different locations through out the station, and also have transmit capabilities.

Another option is to by a public address PA, radioshack sells them and run speakers throughout.

If you are looking to run a MTR2000 locally, say as a base station, that can be done. Any 8 pin Motorola mic can be plugged into the mic jack and work. Doesn't have to be the specific test mic (although the side buttons do help). As far as receive, the only thing lacking is an audio amp to drive a speaker directly. You'll need the amplified speaker and interface cable as hitechRadio mentioned above. In the RSS you have complete control over the speaker volume and can switch RX PL on off or just blow open squelch if that is your bent.

If you just want to remote a speaker out to another location, (tens of feet I imagine), you'll have to roll your own extension cable (six pin phone style straight through) male to female to get the speaker to where you want it.
