I didn't want to use the R word in another thread title. There is already an R-word thread in another forum, but the suggestion I want to make is pertinent to the software packages discussed in this forum.

How about relabeling the current versions of Motorola tracking software with the suffix NR for Not Rebanded, and issuing rebanded and NR versions in parallel until the process has been completed in all 4 waves, after which time the NR versions won't work and can be discontinued?

Wave 1 is in progress, which means that many users will need these programs to be able to handled rebanded systems pretty soon. Others live in border areas, or travel, and need both versions for as long as there are some systems within their listening areas that fall into different rebanding waves.

A similar dilemma could exist for scanner users. If a scanner is flash updated for rebanding, will that render it incapable of tracking non-rebanded systems? If so, people will need to preserve "downgrade" flashes for a while, too.

{[EDIT} I just realized that I put this message into the wrong forum. I meant to start this thread in the Trunker etc. forum, not the general scanning software forum. Sorry for the error. Would a Moderator please relocate the thread to the correct forum? Thanks!

I had posed a similar question a while back in the Uniden form (I think thats where it was). UPMan replied that a Uniden radio that has been flash upgraded to work on rebanded systems will still be backwards compatible with 'legacy' systems.

I'd like to see how rebanding affects the control channel frequency assignments. I'm in the Wave 1 area and nothing has happened yet. As soon as something does, or I get some inclination as to what's changed, I'll code it into Treport as just another band option.

Can't do much until it's happened and the speculation as to the new channel plans is speculation and guessing.
