I was told by someone that the MTS 2000 was going to be discontinued. Is there any truth to this rumor?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I recently bought an HT1250 after hunting for an "Jedi" series HH, the MT2000, JT1000, HT1000 line. Bought the 1250 because I was told that all the Jedi's are no longer being manufactured by "M" after Nov. 1, 2004, but that they would continue to provide support for that series for the next couple of years.
Then I talked to another Motorola rep, and they disclaimed that statement.
I don't think he had gotten the news yet.
I tend to believe the first Moto rep, because of their heavy involvement and concise information I have been provided over the years.

Yep its being outed but support will be available for several years, just like the ASTRO Saber, which though officially discontinued has support till 2008. Big M is transitioning to newer radios, and one of the ways to garuntee you buy a new model: discontinue the old one, limit support for it to a certian number of years. All radio involved companies do this, including scanner makers. The three local Motorola Authorized Dealer/Support/Repair places near me have mentioned that M has some "very cool" radios comming out, on the par with the XTS5000, and its counterpart.

The MTS is still available until sometime next year. One of the latest price agreements lists cancellation as 2nd quarter of 2005. Of course the push is on to sell the XTS 2500 and 1500 and MT1500 series hence "its not available" The same thing was true when individuals where trying to buy Astro Sabers and where told sorry, 200 where purchased by another agency. .... :roll:
