To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

MTS FLASHCODE

WHEN YOU TURN YOUR RADIO ON DURING THE SELF TEST PUSH THE THIRD BUTTON DOWN FROM THE TOP ABOVE THE PTT IF YOUR RADIO HAS A DISPLAY IT WILL DISPLAY S/N MDL # AND POSSIBLY THE FLASHCODE.

I tried pushing the third button down during power-on test, but it didn't do anything. Any suggestions?

Assuming you have a display (model II or III)...
Just after your radio powers-up and goes through its self check, press the button just above the PTT button six times quickly. The radio will go into service mode and scan trough the info. To get out of serice mode, shut the radio off and restart. You may have to repeat this a few times to get all of the info since it goes by pretty quick!

I have to push mine like 5 or 6 times in a row while it is self testing to display the info. Keep pushing the button untill you hear a beep, then look at the display.

I was reading this thread and thought perhaps someone out there may be able to help me solve a mystery. Currently I have on my bench, an MTS 2000 Model III 800MHz portable. Model Number H01UCH6PW1BN Serial number XXXAVJXXXX, so it was manufactured in May 1995. I always thought that all MTS2000's were flash upgradeable. When the radio's flashcode was accessed with a SRIB, nothing would be read. The operation would crap out after the radio was turned off, and then turned back on. When I placed the radio in service mode, it showed a version of V05.43, the model and the serial number, but no flash code. Also, according to CPS, it has system package H37 and unknown firmware.

The radio operates on any Motorola Type I, II or IIi system just fine. The radio has no history of operational or otherwise problem.

Anyone know why this is?

Flashcode

Are you getting the model number off the RSS or from the back cover....
Two possibles... yes there are controllers as old and low as 1.X for an MTS..I had a UHF a year ago that was a 1.4... it still worked but would require a controller change for any flash updating. Its also possible if your serial and model number backplate numbers are what you posted that someone replaced the controller with a MTX controller and forced a MTS codeplug into it. Many of the functions will work, but it doesn't have a flash. If you know about the controller boards you can check to see it iits got the secure port. If it doesn't then its either really old or a MTX board of sort thats been pushed up.

The model number that is displayed when the radio is placed into service mode matches the model that is displayed in the RSS, which matches the model number on the tag on the back of the radio. This radio was purchased brand new from Motorola in 1995. It has always been an MTS. There is no secure port on the controller. How do you know which controller version you have?

Sounds like it's been inhibited. The fact that it goes through self test and then into ROS Idle is what makes me say that. Otherwise there would be some type of fail code.

You sure the radio is a v5.43? If there is no secure port on the controller, its an extremely old controller, hence no FlashCode.

Teh inhibited is correct. Congradulations, you know own a brick shaped like an MTS2000. The only method I'm aware of to uninhibit an MTS2000 is umm, to use the console that inhibited it.

As for the original post, depending on how old the MTS is, it may not have a flash code. Extremely old controllers are not FLASHport compatible and have the older closed firmware style controller.

Make sure your battery is fully charged too. I've seen many radios display Self Test and then go dead only because the battery had just enough juice to start a POST, but not finish it. Other than that, I'd say inhibited as well.

this post is a little old - but i have a dilemma
i dont have much knowledge on these mts2000 heres what i have

model h01ucf6pw1bn with a fail code 01/82

i think it was written with a bad or corrupted codeplug - my job is to try to fix it as it was handed off to me :_)

i cannot get the firmware display to show by pressing the button 5 or 6 times on power up

i have windows cps and dos lab versions to try to fix this

but i dont have a good codeplug to try to revive this -the one that was in it is obviously bad ..it doesnt have a trunking personality at all in it - not even visible in the rss and gives me

"block checksum failed for vector for external radio blk block continue unpack anyway "

any ideas ? anybody have a good codeplug for this ?

thanks for any help

Vhf mts2000

Hello I have a VHF MTS2000 with the front display and full key pad. Every time I try to read the radio it says the radio was programmed with a newer software or some thing. When I bought the radio I was told it was Model # HO1KDH9PW1BN, FLASH CODE 000001-000000-9 and FIRMWARE VERSION IS R06.8*. Any help any one could give me would be greatly appreciated as I am use to dealing with HT1000 portables. This is a different animal for me. Thank you for taking time to read my post.

You answered your own question. The software that was last used to write to the radio is newer than the version you are using.

You need to get the most recent version, or at least one newer than the version used to write to the radio last.
