• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have an MTS2000 model 1 "R" split that does Type 2 Smartnet trunking. Unfortunately, I don't have any use for Smartnet and the radio doesn't do MDC1200 encode/decode. Is there a way to add this into the radio without any major modifications to the physical radio?

It has to be "flashed" on as an option.

The basis behind the "flashing" system was you'd pay for each option you wanted and could "flash" them on if needed, but only those authorized by Motorola with the necessary equipment could do it. Not sure what equipment that is exactly... The issue is these radios are now unsupported/outdated.

That's about all I know... I have the same radio and would love to have MDC on there, if you find anything out I'd definitely be interested.

That's what I thought too. One of my radio programmers is a field tech for Motorola so I can see what he knows and figure it out. Might just be more cost effective to buy one off eBay already flashed for it.

Support for the MTS2000/MCS2000 ended a few years back (2010 IIRC). I am not sure if Flashport upgrades are being sold by Motorola, but there are some folks in the radio community who may be able to help you.

Problem is shipping your radio to and from may exceed the value itself and as you've said, buy one that already has the desired feature set flashed in.

One caveat about Ebay MTS2000s, most sellers don't know a Flashcode from a hole in the ground and the rear chassis tags may not always match what is inside.

If they are willing, have them put the radio in field test mode (press lower side button 5 times within 10 seconds of power on) and read the flashcode and firmware version to you.

The feature descriptor block editor tool works well on the MCS2000 radios for adding features such as this. I wonder if it would work on the MTS2000 portables as well.
