• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You can call Motorola and have them send you the license agreement, once you are all signed up you can order (yes they cost $$) almost any RSS for any of their radios. Doesnt take long and it ensures that you are legit. If you have trouble finding the number pm me and I will go through my old paperwork and find it.

Thanks

Software/Motorola

I tried to apply for the software, going thru the propper channels, Motorola wont even send an application form, the request was dinied, even though it's for business purposes, However they refer somebody that can program the MTX8000. No Wonder people have to go about it in other ways, You can't even get the application, If they don't like the company name, So back to begining, If anyone knows how to get around using older software or know where one could pick up a copy of the latest version of MTSX R06.07.00, I think thats the latest, let me know if I'm mistaken, thanks BIG AL

Kenwood's easier to deal with when it comes to software and hardware from what my experience has been but I am in no way downing Motorola. They're very good radios and equipment and I honestly have no complaints towards them besides price.

Mythbusting....

There seems to be a misconception that Motorola won't sell you their software. This is FALSE.

I don't even have a business, yet I am able to get just about anything I want from Motorola. As long as you are willing to sign their RSS licensing agreement and pay the $$$, you should be able to get the software.

You cannot get the RSS for certain radios that are dealer-channel product (mainly the newer Waris series stuff) but you should be able to get the MTSX RSS (that covers your MTX8000).

The easiest way to do this is go to http://businessonline.motorola.com/ and apply for a MOL account. Once you do that, call MOL support and ask them to add "software support" to your account. This will allow you to download and sign the RSS agreement. From there, they should add the RSS software to your account. If they don't, open a case and get them to do it.

From there you should be able to order RVN4176N, which is the MTSX RSS. This has the latest DOS RSS and Windows CPS for the MTSX radios (MTS2000, MT2000, MTX8/9000)

I had a runaround getting them to add the RSS to my catalog, but once I talked to the right person it happened very fast.

If you use the wrong version of RSS on the Jedi radios, you can toolproof them, and the only way to get that fixed is to send them back to Motorola and the minimum bench charge there is $350.

batlabs.com is a good resource for the M stuff as is the batboard.batlabs.com.

Rule #1 there is don't ask anyone for RSS. If you do, you'll get banninated.

Any other question you might have about M stuff (and some other commercial stuff) someone there will have an answer.

It's not a good idea to be asking for RSS any other place either--- M is very protective of their software. Once you license it, it is yours and yours only, you cannot resell it or transfer the rights to anyone else.

Also, it is NOT a good idea to be programming trunking radios onto a system where you are not authorized. People have done *serious JAIL time* for that! If you do, you'll probably get your radio inhibited by the system, and good luck getting that undone.

If you want to listen to a trunking system, get a scanner. Yeah, they suck audio-wise compared to genuine Big M gear, but at least it's legal and you won't get your radio turned into a brick.

All that being said, once you get your M stuff programmed the way you want it, the Motorola sickness will set in, and you won't want to use anything else.

Good luck,
-b-

It seems that Motorola might do that in the States, but the Canadian Team Will NOT sell or even send the appication form for the Licence Agreement, They just refer it to one of there Motorola dealer(Digital Mobile Radios) for programming. But my problem was solved in other ways, thank you!

I'm going to have to bust your mythbust.

They do selectively deny people access for no apparent reason. It took me days to get a MOL account going and only certain software items show up as being available. As for the Waris stuff, that's one thing they did allow and I'm not a dealer. Maybe I'm missing something along the way but that was my experience.

It really seems to make no sense at all.
