Muffled voice on BC785D on Moto Type II digital system

I am currently scanning a Motorolla Type II Digital system on my Uniden BC785D. It is mounted in my truck (internal speaker points down).

It sounds very crisp and clear when scanning 150 mhz but when it gets to the 800 mhz digital, the voice only sounds clear at low volume levels.

Is there anything I can do to "tune" my scanner in better, or is an external speaker from scanner master my only option?

With digital, the audio quality must be set for the system you are monitoring. There should be a chapter in the manual addressing this procedure. I do not own a 785D and am unable to describe same. I own a 250d. With the 250d while on an active talk group you hit trunk, then hold "9" until beep. Audio quality setting shows on screen. Turn VFO until the setting in the top right corner is at the lowest number, hit "E" then resume, then resume again.

I have a 785D, monitor three conventional 400 MHz conventional digital systyems, and have experienced the same problem. What hai_akeeba says is correct, except that you have to play around with the setting to get it the audio the way you want it Another problem I have is that the volume on the digital systems is a lot louder than on the analog systems, and I haven't really been able to correct it. If I turn the volume down so the digital comes in normal, the analog systems are too low. If I turn it up for the analog, the digital is too loud. With a price tag of around $600.00 I would think that Uniden would have taken some time to eliminate these problems before they marketed the unit. :evil:

The new Uniden and the current digital models from Radioshack have an automatic gain control (AGC) feature that make most digital comms the same audio level. However, by nature digital is just louder and more powerful then analog, so there will always be an audio difference between the two.
