Have heard them called alot of things......

Have a few questions about those loop antennas.....
What is the best type of insulated wire and ga to build them with ?..
Best to run the wire through a pulley or just use insulators for the corners ?...
I probably have room for a 160m loop, but was looking at going with a 80m-10m loop...
Just want to try one, been running a endfed for years..

Here's what my yard consist of, I have tall trees out front near the creek, and out back near the mountain side, most of them are 60 plus feet tall, and most of them are sycamore trees, prefer to hang the wire in the yard, but I'm surrounded by mountains here, but it does open up more to the East directions than anywhere........ok, my service line comes in from the main road on the shack side of the house, also a street light on the shack side of the house too, and out front our telephone/internet comes to the house, the rest of the yard is flat and about a acre of land, and rest of the land is mountain side...

So, not a 100% sure the best place to hang it or what, just something been kicking around a few days, what do you all recommend ?....

Have you considered an mag loop? I have a W6LVP and very happy with it. Mine is RX only though, but Larry makes a TX/RX type.

Larry also stands firm behind his product.

I ran a PAR EF-SWL endfed and while it does a nice job, the W6LVP is a whole new ball game.

Instead of starting a new thread, wanted to ask what type of insulated wire you use to build your 80m loop out of ?

Last time I made one I used stranded 14 gauge insulated wire. 275', used a ladder lock to hook it up to the ladder line. Triangular delta loop, three guy points at 80'. Hung it horizontal, amazing how quiet it was on receive. Even 40 and 20. It was 20 years ago, wire was cheaper then.

Of all I have seen and tested, the mutiband with 2,3 loops don,t do as well as single loop.
Loops under 1 meter do better with larger diameter wire, RG58 coax sheild or similar.
Over 1 meter, insulated #14 antenna wire works fine.
!/2 wave 20 meter, is big, a bit direction restrictive, but performance is great.
Transmitting, you will need a balun to handle the max power.
