• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

An APX6500 has a system programmed that uses ADP encryption. The customer would like to add a second system that uses a different ADP key. They have purchased the enhancement that allows multiple ADP keys. When reading a radio, the ADP key is ****** out. I do not know the key for that system.

My question:
If I add the enhancement, can I put a second system in, add that ADP key and program the radio or must I know the ADP key of both systems and enter both. I know generally when you read a radio to clone, it will not let you without retyping the ADP key. The original code plug is normally needed. I just have not run across this request before.

Reading a radio will never reveal the key.
I've never done it but I would venture to guess that when the entitlement is added that it could wipe out the existing key. The only thing you need to know is what Key ID is used for the other system so that you don't use it for the other key that is being put into the radio.

Reading it and then writing to it won't delete the existing key unless there is a key retention setting on other than infinite key retention.

The guys over at commtechforums might be of more help.

I don't have a need for the existing key. I just have someone who wants me to add the multi-key enhancement and put another system in. I don't want to erase the existing key accidentally as that is the system the user would prefer to have until we know what will happen.

You need to know both keys to write the radio. Keys include the key index. All fields except the actual shrouded key must be unique.

If you don't type in the ADP key already in the radio you wont be able to write the radio unless you delete the unknown ADP key.
