Hello all, I have a Unication G4 and I am looking to listen to my neighboring countys SO and EMS Dispatch but unless I am in my county I only hear any units when they enter into my county or I am in that county. How can I listen to that counties traffic when I am at home?

I'm assuming this is on MARCS? If your in range of the sites in that county, program the control channels for those sites.

I am not in range for the county I am trying to listen to, but I have the site in my county and well as that counties site I am trying to listen to programmed, but when I am in my house I can hear everything just fine, just not the county I am wanting to hear.

If you are talking about Ohio MARCS unless your neighboring counties can affiliate with your county's control frequencies then you cant. That is a downfall of using a G4 as a scanner. It is designed to be a pager and not a scanner. If you use it to scan then they assume you only need it to scan a few talk groups that would be close and associated with your agency. I have a G4 that I use at home to scan my county but I have to use my SDS 200 to scan the neighboring counties and a few businesses that I listen to. I also have the SDS 100 for the jump bag for on the go and another SDS 200 in the truck. I have the SDS radios set with all of my neighboring counties and other counties that I travel through on a regular basis. I can turn them on and off from the key pad as needed. If you change to a Uniden SDS radio this is something you can do. On your G4 pager when you power it up it looks for the closest control frequency that you have programed into the radio. It then locks onto that frequency and never lets go and just scans the talk groups that you have entered into the radio and those talk groups must be approved to associate with that control frequency. If you use a scanner the radio will scan trough all of your control frequencies for your county and look for activity on the talk groups that you have programed. Once it makes a pass through your county it will jump to your neighboring county control frequencies and make a scan pass through those frequencies and look at those talk groups and then jump back to your county and repeat the process.

I find it very interesting that so many different counties are authorized on Warren county towers, but Hamilton county basically only authorizes themselves and a few random TGs from close counties. Difference in population I guess.

Actually it's a question of what was agreed to when the county in question partnered with MARCS. Hamilton County wisely insisted that everyone and their uncle not have access to their site(s).

Cincinnati would appear to be a limited

Along with Columbus, Summit County and probably a couple others I don't track. The city retains ownership of the infrastructure. Probably some messy stuff about ownership in city charters as well PLUS not having all your eggs in one basket if things go down.
