I have six base scanners. Could I get suggestions on what to program in these six scanners. I want to use all six at once. None of these are digitial. There all conventional.

Here is a general lump sum idea:
Scanner 1: Civilian Aviation
Scanner 2: Military Aviation (if your scanner can do that)
Scanner 3: Local Law Enforcement
Scanner 4: Local Fire/EMS
Scanner 5: State Agencies
Scanner 6: Rail/Business

Are any trunktrackers ? Alabama has a number of trunk systems.

What county do you live in? This will give us an idea of what you have in your area. As to businesses, FDs, PDs, CAP, Military. You know all of that good stuff. Also might want to have one on FRS/GMRS and MURS, Most Walmarts and Targets use MURS as a store radio, and you can hear all kinds of funny stuff on FRS (people don't think anyone can hear them! :lol: ).

I currently have 4 scanners going. BC235XLT (local FDs) BC245XLT (local PDs) PRO-2067 (Outlying Counties FD/EMS, Utilities. local Trunked Systems) PRO-96 everything above plus statewide Digital system.
I have some frequencies in multiple scanners so I don't miss something. lol

I keep one scanner going 24/7/365 with freqs that I have never monitored, ie 121.5, and extremely rare freqs that I have have monitored.

I run three: My PRO-28 is set for the non trunked business, and Highway Patrol. My PRO-83 is my CB, GMRS, FRS, MURS Masher. My PRO-92B is set for all the Trunked, and PS stuff , and is my LTR Masher, freq confirmer vias tones, Analog TG ID'er, and overall workhorse.
I have my 92-b running my local FD, PD, Highway patrol, EMT, Hospital, Highway Department, Downtown Police (they get pretty funny), Business Misc and The local Airport. I decide when I want to listen to different ones and as you can guess I would miss everything if i listened to them all at once. So I choose each one as I want to listen. Local airport only runs dawn till dusk.
My pro-28 is running through the Color/Letter Dot freq's along with GMRS and FRS. Have to choose the 30 channels carefully but I got a good list going I think.
Its fun to hear my apartment complex break the law on a daily basis. Illegal entry and whatnot.
I am hoping to get a 96 soon but cash flow is low. Would rather pay the electric then get a 96. But once I do it will get all trunking ofr the area including listening to the Jailors in the local county Jail.

Ever since then I usually keep my radio on scan and catch people talking on it all the time. Mostly travelers, but some times I hear locals too.
I agree with Scanfan03, take one of them at least and program in all of the FRS, GMRS and MURS into it. You're bound to hear something interesting on there from time to time. Of course keep in mind those are all line of sight, simplex, low power operation, so you'll need to be close in to hear it.. Usually 1 to 4 miles is the capability of those radios. If you have an antenna with gain and mounted on a mast you'll increase your coverage greatly.

It's not another channel. Let me explain how they work...
Everyone has 14 channels to use... That can get a little harry if you put a lot of different users in close quarters to one another on the same 14 channels. So what they did was add 38 PL TONES or CTCSS. Remember it's subaudible so you're not going to ever hear the tones. They transmit on the channel that you transmit on and cause another radio with the matching tone to open it's receiver in order to hear you.
Jack and Jill are on FRS, and they're both on channel 1 at the mall one day talking to each other, but Robert is at the mall with Charles as well and are using channel 1 too.
Without the codes, all 4 of them are going to hear eachother's transmissions. This can cause confusion. So instead of adding a bunch of other channels they put 38 tones on each radio. When you use the tone, your radio is muted to all activity unless another radio is transmitting the same tone.
So Jack and Jill turn on their tones and use code 35 on channel 1. So as long as Robert and Charles don't also use code 35 in their radio, Jack and Jill will not hear Charles and Robert when they talk to one another.
The BIG misconception is that people think that it provides PRIVACY for their conversations. This is NOT SO! All it does is mutes your own radio's receiver until it picks up a transmission matching the tone in use. It's just another way to allow MORE users on limited channels.
So hope you enjoyed the long answer. Just program in each of the 14 frequencies for FRS into your scanner. You'll hear everything that anyone says.
But now they make FRS radios with voice inversion :roll: . I don't know how they got the FCC to pass the radio since it is illegal to use any type of digital or encription on FRS? :roll:

Also the frequency inversion thing is easily defeated with readily available freqency inversion boards.
