• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Multiple TGIDs with the same broadcast?

Okay, so I've started researching some TGIDs in my local area, and I'm noticing something kind of weird: I've got the same feed coming over multiple talk groups, and I'm trying to figure out why. The only reason I know this is happening is because they're all feeds for two local ambulance companies.

Now, these are NOT Public Safety Frequencies, they are actually Business Trunked systems.

Before I go ahead and post these for the Database, should I?? Is this information accurate or am I somehow getting skip from other channels?

Thanks in advance!

The only way to tell what's happening is to monitor the system control channel with Unitrunker or similar control channel decoding software, and see what the system says it's doing.

The channels may be patched, or may be multicast. It's quite common for some systems to have several talkgroups tied together, either actually patched, or simulcast so the dispatcher comes out on multiple talkgroups.

San Diego Gas and Electric, for instance, multicasts all sorts of talkgroups. Presumably, this is tying in 'same purpose' talkgroups for different districts into one group, when things are slow. If the system has a lot of traffic in multiple areas, they might then deselect multicast and operate the talkgroups independently.

Thanks for the info, Skip..

I'm thinking its probably patched or multicasted.. The companies in question run less than 10 trucks each in a relatively small geographic area.

So I guess the question at this point is should all of the TG's be submitted for the database, or just the existing ones? I dont want to tie up anyone's time unnecessarily..

To close this out, only submit TG's that are the "home" of the traffic you are hearing. To do that you must identify the actual TG that is primarily associated with the traffic you hear.

This is really not a topic for this forum; so I am closing this thread. Please note this is not a scanner related forum, thanks.
