At the request of user "policefreak" I turned on C-Ch Output and the bogus VC frequency begins. At least on the BCD325P2.

He has apparently done a lot of testing and discovered some other oddities also.

Correct, but with C-Ch Output on I don't have to scan a 2nd system to have the issue start happening.

Is this firmware or hardware?

I am very close to getting this unit, mostly because of the lack of other bug reports and because of the much larger number of bugs in the 436/536.

My question is, do you think this is an issue that will be resolved in firmware or will it require hardware?

If it is firmware, I can go ahead and make the purchase; if otherwise I should wait.

Thanks for the opinions.

x2.....

Wait.....by all means.....W-A-I-T !!! You never know how long a fix, either simple or complex, is going to take to resolve these days in regards to Uniden scanners.

I called Uniden about this issue and the guy I spoke to said a firmware update is in the works and should be released within two weeks

Thanks. Wouldn't it be great if all the problems could be fixed with firmware? I would love to see NFM but I know that is just a pipe dream.

The high end Uniden models have a true NFM filter. The others have a pseudo-filter.

Check the prices again. The BCD536HP costs about $100-150 more.

The P2 is not a low tier model (that would be the BCT15X), but it is not the high tier model either. The P25 capability adds considerably to the price, but the P2 is the lowest price mobile digital scanner Uniden currently makes (and has ever made).

I did. Up until the big price drop a couple of days ago, the price difference between the 436HP and the 996P2 was $11. I know they are base and portable but usually there is a bigger difference than $11.

In any case as the 996P2 has no NFM filter and is not a top of the line model, I'll cross it off the list.
