Anyone else heard mention of Murray PD maybe moving over to the UCAN system?

I monitored a coversation yesterday morning between some UCAN employees, on TGID 4096 UCAN Engineers. They were discussing the Murray PD radios and one mentioned that she had sent the, "Chief of Police his new radio list".

Now I do not know if UCAN is just doing all of the reprograming for all jurisdictions for the Reband or if this is an indication they are moving over to UCAN.

My understandng is that UCAN helped get Murray going with freq. licenses. So it could mean anything. Rebanding costs might help push Murray onto UCAN, but who knows.

Something is going to happen Monday!

I just copied some UCAN Radio Engineers discussing "something" happening Monday morning. I didn't catch WHAT was going to happen, but one of them said they had spoken to ?? about the TGs and it was fine and that whoever he had spoken to was planning to make the change Monday at 6:00 am.

So expect some kind of change early Monday!

I heard the same coversation.

Seems there was one of the guys that was pretty hot because, "here it is 5:30 on a Friday and we are just now finding out there may be a problem with the radios?" "Seems like some engineer type should have thought of that months ago."

The problem was they have a model of EF Johnson radios "somewhere" , I did not catch the name of the jurisdiction they were talking about either, that spanned several years of production. They are trying to determine if there is a production code or some other means of identification to indicate which are flashable for rebanding. One of the guys said the only way they know to tell is to look at the radio, I assume open it up. The response was, "Well if they want us to go down there and sort this out @ $65 an hour I'll be glad to." Also there was the reference to 6am Monday.

There are several conclusions you can draw from this bit of information. I agree with glajlu to expect changes Monday morning. I hope it is Murray moving on to UCAN. I fear, like the rest, the activation of the reband. Sleep well Sunday my friends for Monday brings a new day.

My guess from what Rolfman posted is Maybe the Murray system is not rebandable. As to what this all means, well that's up in the air. Is Monday switch day :( I hope not. Is Murray going to come to UCAN? that would be cool. Will our favorite dispatcher get a vacation? stay tuned next week for SLC Scanning!

Sorry got carried away LOL.

Nothing any of us can put our finger on. We do know that they are taking pieces of equipment from around the county in for rebanding. I made a post here about hearing them taking a SLC fire truck out of service "...for rebanding" today.

How was your trip back home? Good I hope.
