MURS in SW Michigan?

Hi all.. Believe it or not I just found out about MURS a few months ago. At the time I was in NC and could only listen to the MURS channels via a scanner and 1/4 wave whip. I heard no activity. Well Im back home now and Ive converted an Icom IC2AT to use for MURS. Im still listening using a whip antenna but have ordered a Tram base antenna and should be putting it up shortly.

So.. If there is anyone in SW Michigan who is using MURS I would be glad to talk to them!

BTW... At around the same time I discovered MURS I was considering opening up another CB repair shop as I used to have one in my teens during the heyday of CB. I have decided not only to service and sell CB radios but also to specialize in MURS compatible equipment. So if anyone in this area is in need of a tech dealing in MURS then Im the guy!

Not exactly. he he..
Its a 2 watt ham ht. Im only using it on the 154 mhz channels.

I hope not.. I want it to be like CB should have been. There wouldnt have been so much need for power or quiet channels. Theres no need for that when a good antenna is a better investment.

I live right down the road from a Walmart. They use Murs on 154.570. It is not very interesting though. I quite frequently hear "Customer needs assistance in pets to pick out some fish" LOL I have not heard anything else on murs except Walmart.

Converted 'ham' equipment is not legal on MURS nor is more then 2 watts. I hear hams from my location 100 miles away on these frequencies. They talk ham stuff and at times start to give their call. If caught they will lose all assigned licenses and a hefty fine. With all the available open ham frequencies, I don't understand why they do this, although some do think they are the 'radio GOD' and can do what they want, when they want just because they have a amatuer license.
