Muskoka Area OPP (Huntsville, Bracebridge, Etc)

Can anyone assist me in what type of scanner I could use to monitor this area. I am getting back into scanning and need to purchase a scanner again. Would the BC-245XLT work b/c I can get a hold of one of those right now. Or is the system digital and would I require something like the BC-296D instead? I would prefer the digital for overall but if I do not require it yet then something else would suite just fine.

As far as I know you would need a digital scanner. Like you said the 296D or radio shack (USA) has the pro 96 i think. From what I hear thats a pretty damn good scanner. The OPP do have some simplex freqs but i dont know if you would reallly need them for the area you are requesting.

Just be sure to check out the RadioReference database. All the information you need to get back programming your scanner. Also, the ScanOnt group on Yahoo is another place for great information and help

Looking at the RR Database -Fleetnet Zone 2 I see these sites in that area:

032... Britt.................................. 142.3800*
033... Moon River (MOON)?...........142.4100* 142.6200*

You will need a BC 296D to hear the OPP. While you can set up the
BC-245XLT to track the system by displaying talkgroups, it will
not allow you to hear digital transmissions.

If you were able to monitor up that way,then you could notify the DB Admin with any new voice freq's or talkgroups to keep the list updated.

Sources indicate the Muskoka's should be on by May 2nd, 2005. Of course, Fleetnet dates have been known to change.
