If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am attempting to program a astro spectra to (Receive only Voice Traffic) on a specific channel using a standard PL Code. This particular channel will broadcast in Morse code the call sign about every 15 minutes. I am assuming that the PL code is usually not transmitted when the Morse code is transmitted. I have tried all three settings in the "RX Option" but the Morse code is still being received. Is there anyway to block out the Morse Code and still receive the voice traffic?

If the squelch is opening, then the PL tone is being transmitted. The radio unmutes when it receives the correct PL tone. I’m not aware of a way to have one and not the other.

I was under the impression that when the Morse code was transmitted, it would be without the PL code, thus eliminating the annoying beeping every 15 minutes. On another note, I am trying to program my ASTRO to transmit in the ASTRO mode on one channel. Under the personality tab I set squelch to CSQ (receive) and disabled (transmit). Under RX options I have Unmute or Mute, RX voice is set to Mixed Mode. TX Options/TX Voice is set to Non-ASTRO. Under the ASTRO tab RX Unmute rule is set to Digital CSQ. Don't know if I need anything in Network ID. I am on the VHF band (Conventional) and only plan on having one channel transmit digital. What I can't figure out is why the "DIR" light stays on when I select this channel.

Station ID can be configured to be sent with or without PL in most equipment. Typically, it's preferred to send it without PL but that's not always the case. What are you trying to monitor? Is it a PS system? If so, doubtful they'll send ID with PL.

I'm just monitoring the state police and I did not think they would send the station ID out with a PL but I can't figure out how to stop it from coming through.

Is the mike plugged in? and the hang up piece on the back in a mic holder that is grounded?? if not, the receiver is most likely in CSQ vs PL. Trying to help u rule out common issues I see.

Your radio is probably in monitor mode then, try the suggestions by talviar to start.

That's a good thought and do have senior moments from time to time. I usually have a base microphone plugged it but I have the mobile one plugged in so I will swap out mics and see if that's it.

The base microphone did not help. I will check the grounded mic clip to see if that will fix it
