Did anyone else happen to monitor Atlanta Fire traffic this afternoon around 1330. There was a MVA on the Downtown Connector northbound - somewhere north of Courtland St - and if I heard correctly, there were about 15 patients needing transport. When I heard them, 7 had already been transported and AFD was scrambling trying to find 8 more med units. Grady responded to AFD that they not only had no more ambulances but didn't have access to any back-ups.

God help us if we ever have a real disaster in the city. I felt very sorry for the AFD crews trying to help the victims

All the more reason for me and my family to NOT venture inside 285.

Well, after the contracts were all "re-negotiated", Grady takes care of most all of the City of Atlanta. Rural/Metro is everything north of Weiuca Road. All they would have had to do is call one of the many private services to come and run what we called a "Grady Backup" call.

That's what I thought. But I heard Grady Dispatch tell the scene commander that Grady doesn't have any backup providers. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. At most any time of the day, there are probably 5-10 Metro and other ambulance providers on the Emory campus somewhere. Another situation where our interoperability is helping us communicate better.

There you have it! Your tax dollars at work...or are they sleeping on the job? :(

Did y'all read about the MVA/fatality on 85 up in Jackson Co.? My nextdoor neighbor's 5 year old was in daycare and they pulled a little girl out of his class, her Daddy was the fatality. :( :( :(

I was working in DeKalb County (a private service there) in the 80's, and we were called in for a Grady Backup in South Fulton! A 20+ minute response time and when we are pulling up on the scene, we got a call from Grady advising it was a full arrest! Needless to say, the patient didn't make it and on the way there, we actually passed 2 Grady and 1 Atlanta South ambulances that were not on calls.
