MVAs Between Two Townships?

How do police departments split their responsibilities when it comes to MVAs that occur along the border of two townships? East Hanover Ave., for example, runs along the Hanover Township and Morris Township border. Does the CAD at the Comm Center decide what patrol unit from either township is closer and is available and then routes the call to that township's dispatcher, or is the whole process random?

I can only reply as to how it's handled round here......
When we have an MVA on the border of two Twps the county dispatcher puts a car from each Twp on the call and the first on scene can then report the exact location and confirm whose job it is. As far as paperwork goes the Twp that the wreck started in usually gets the honors, as opposed to where the vehicles come to rest.

East Hanover Avenue traverses 3 towns. Morris Plains, Morris Twp. and Hanover Twp. The Comm Center does not get involved in either towns. They each have their own dispatchers.

Ditto, on what the other poster said. The CAD system can only go so far. A pair of eyes is needed in this case.

Where I live usualy the call taker tries to determine who it belongs to. If they can't determine they will dispatch their own and or do a hand off. Heard one today on the bridge over the Clinton River. The County dispatched a Mt. Clemens car and had Clinton Twp. dispatch a car, When Clinton got there they said it was their's. Some of the boundries are easy, they will ask if you are Eastbound or Westbound etc. ,But some poeple are directionally challenged.

Around here, whatever town the call goes to will dispatch a unit. That unit will then determine whos it is, and, if nesicary, the dispatcher will hand it off to that town.
