I found a fairly mint condition MVT-7200 (externally) that has very weak audio output and the filter sounds like it’s either to wide or to narrow depending on what is being tuned in.
WFM sounds fairly normal aside from the weak audio. NFM sounds like if you were to switch to AM on a normally NFM freq. A local AM station receives ok then switching to NAM there is no signal.
Resetting unfortunately doesn’t help.
Tried a headphone with the same results so it isn’t the speaker.
I’m hoping that a simple filter pot adjustment would work. Otherwise it’s going for service which is worth doing anyways.
Everything else works fine. Frequencies seem to be aligned fine, no 5khz above or below.
Signal strength is good side by side with the 7100.
Opening it up everything looks clean, cleaned the pin contacts.
The battery area looks ok and no issues running on battery or wall power. I’ve read of corroded battery contacts causing glitches even though power is on etc.
There were memories still stored before putting batteries in when it arrived so the memory battery is either still alive or it’s a replacement.
Functions / keypad/ dial are all working perfectly, even the tuning dial feels crisp compared to my 7100’s occasional notch/tuning skips.
One of the problems I have read of from 7100/7200 posts is the front end getting blown by being to close to a transmission but again, the receiver has no problem with signals.
