The Antenna on the coffee can is Larsen tri-band antenna which is hooked up to the BCT15 and the antenna on the window is a Diamond RH77CA which is hooked up to the BC350C.

How well does the antenna work with the coffee can as a ground plane? I have my RS 25-1300 mhz antenna on a scrap metal closet shelf 12x18 inches and it works ok as the ground plane for the antenna.

You will get MUCH better results out of that antenna if you give it a proper ground plane, as what you have is inadequate.

As someone already posted they are using a 12x18 piece of metal ... now that is more like what you should use.

Just a suggestion ..

Thanks for the info,I would do that if I could, but at the moment am unable to get a bigger ground plane.

I just wanted to reply and mention great setup, I have the same Larsen antenna myself. It's probably the best antenna I've ever owned for a vehicle. Absolutely incredible reception. Got it at the Ham Radio outlet in DE. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a EXCELLENT antenna! :)

I've been using the "coffee cans" on and off for years.
One apartment was even able to get the "can" outside for better results.
Also worked well.
Only issue I've had was having it too close to the scanner. I moved the antenna to another room
interference went away.

Can someone post the model (or more info) on that Larsen antenna ?

Thanks

I have had that antenna since 2007 and its still great.

It's a Larsen NMO150/450/800,it's max height is 16.5 inches and it's a tri-band antenna.It mounts on a NMO mount.
