So I just picked up a '97 Ranger 4x4 Regular cab. It was way too quiet recently so I finally took a couple hours and put the radios into the Ranger.
Here's my setup. Nothing special. Won't be using the ashtray ever again as I cut the sliders for it out and used those small brackets to rivet the mounting bracket for the radio to. Nice flush install to the bottom of the dash. If i really want to clean it up, I can wrap the mic cord around the back of the radio and it stays completely out of the way. The CB is a uniden Pro520XL. The one right below the stereo is a Yaesu FT-7800R. The body of the radio is behind where the pass side airbag should be (but thankfully didn't come with one). I keep smacking the control unit when I shift, so I'll probably use the dual din dash kit and sink the control unit back a bit when I get some time.
The CB antenna is mounted on the drivers side, between the tool box and cab. The mount bracket is grounded directly back to the frame. It's a 4' Firestick fiberglass whip on a spring mount just in case I forget it's there and try to park in garage.
The VHF/UHF antenna is mounted on the pass side of the tool box behind the cab. I know it's not the greatest for signal radiation but it's not within view of me while driving and it keeps the antenna protected and out of the way. The bracket is also grounded directly to the frame at the same point as the CB antenna.
You can't see the VHF/UHF antenna really well, I'll eventually get better pics of it when the weather gets better.
