• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just ordered a used qt40 from Scott's radios last night. I'm going to install it in my jeep, so I'm not concerned about it being used. Since he goes through them and checks them, I'm pretty confident it'll be a good radio.
I hope it works out well for you. I like the old school look it has. If I was in the market for a mobile radio it would be my choice too.

I have owned several Anytone 10 meter rigs but never the area II yet and I'm looking forward to using the one I just ordered from Amazon for $149 and it's the Radioddity qt40 same as ares II.
This will also be the first time using/owning a Radioddity brand rig and I'm assuming this brand along with other radio brands that all look the same as anytone are also manufactured by the same china based factory, is this information correct ?

I already know it's going to be a great mobile base station as i had nothing but good luck and good reports on every Anytone rig I've had come across my radio desk.
I have joined a few of these online radio forums such as this one and worldwidedx and maybe one or two more on Facebook but every forum has always provided valuable radio information with all good and positive reviews about Anytone rigs.
Everybody loves these dam things never a bad word spoken about Anytone.

Generally yes. The same factory produces multiple brands of the same radios, such as AnyTone, Radioddity, Retevis, Aquario, CRT, TRE, etc. For the money you won’t be disappointed.

I have favored anytone 10 meter transceivers ever since the first one I purchased from Anderson Radio Supply about 4 years ago that started with the anytone at-5555+.
My new Radioddity qt40 was delivered today around 10 AM and I've been skip talking all day and allover the western united states coming from the bluegrass state.
I can still hear some skip fadeing in and out and the current time is almost midnight which is kinda sorta odd occurance to hear skip rolling throughout the night on the east coast after sundown.
Here it is mounted to my radio desk talking skip with very little effort on a barefoot radio and I'm my current location or home 20 I cannot use over 100 watts of output, that's the starting point of signal reflecting off the building causing swr to rise above a 1.1 where I like to keep my swr at all times.
I refuse to let my antennas swr go above 1.1 within the frequency range I operate on near all the time on channel 14 frequency 27.125 in the Kentuckiana TRI state area down by the Ohio river, come on.
Call me ole Shoog Nasty 109 on the east coast AM station we just got down.

Don't mess around in the service menu. That's how people end up with bricks. The best tweaks can be made with the programming software + cable. Like enabling hi-cut, enabling the on screen swr reading, adjusting the insanely loud default talk back setting, customizing roger beeps, etc.

I ordered one of these for the RV park last month. First step of a number of steps to set up what I hope can be a first class base station for the owner.

Location is west of Fort Worth on the Brazos River. Flooding is a possibility, so, too, the loss of electricity & cell service. Also within tornado country.

Many good reasons to have Citizen Band.

QT40 a value choice where the familiar look to controls is a plus. Don’t need bifocals if can count faceplate dials left/right.

— I’m going to come up with a cheat sheet for operational simplicity. Laminate it and chain it. Image above on reverse. Operator manual also attached.

This month may order power supply (genset backup present plus solar), radio stand, and speaker. Next month, a few long runs of coax. And so forth.

Weather Channels (NOAA) a definite plus. Will encourage use (daily reliance) past some gabbing on whatever channel chosen for local.

We have a cell phone group chat . . . now it’s time for freedom from intermediaries.

390 has a new 21” vid on QT40:

A “go over”

He runs base and — so far as I know — hasn’t yet had a high performance NRC mobile. Yet his vids are friendly & accessible, thus recommended.

great radio... no one would ever notice the power difference between the QT-60 and the QT-40... first time you look at the display in the sunlight it will be all worthwhile.... and switching from AM to SSB is so much easier when driving.

Well, I’ll take the 60 every time over the 40. I’ve well past 2,000-hours cross continent with 60 and find the faceplate intuitive & easy. The meter on the 40 is useless at speed, and for getting down the highway the meter is a desirable tool, too often. The meter on the 60 is enormous.

Otherwise, yeah, for those not much interested in mobile radio — better choices exist re size, etc. — they instead want a base setup. Or it’s someone else’s radio they’re about to use, the 40 is an easy choice as a buy. It’s what they expect when someone says, “CB”. It might be a help in preventing theft if it’s thought to be a generic radio.

QT40, IMO, is today’s Generic CB.

I’m going to assume it becomes the Cobra 29.
NRC plus adequate juice has been needed a long time. And it’s not worth giving up SSB.

For smaller size and 2X the power = QT80.
For (same) and higher QC plus ability to modify power to run an amp = George 2 or Washington. (with yet more features; etc).

Hopefully those interested will find this thread as the OP nailed what was wanted. Entry level has never been this good.
