Hello, I'm currently running a 2055 at UC Davis, CA running the UCD Police & Fire groups as well as the City of Davis Police and fire groups. I programmed using the Win 97 software and the RR download. My question is as follows:

I only programmed in the police and fire groups yet I'm still picking up random talkgroups on both the University and City trunked systems. For instance I never programmed in the city bus service but all of a sudden I'll get a talk group ID # and hear the buses. Thus far I've been locking out these talkgroups as they come up and that seems to be working. My question is why is the radio picking up trunked IDs I never programmed.

oh, and no signal stalker was not on.

Thanks!

lol and my screen just went out but that's another topic for another well covered thread...

If you only want to hear your programmed talkgroups, you have to set the bank as "closed". That's why zzdiesel asked if the bank was open or closed. If it is set as "open", you will get all talkgroups that are not locked out whether they are programmed or not.

edit....

Using win97, the setting is here.

each bank has between 4 and 12 channels in it and I locked out all the additional slots.

If you leave the banks open; then you'll get all the conversations on that repeater. Manually go to each bank you are using and then press Funtion and then ./delay. Then the display will show either Bank Open or Bank Closed.

Thanks for that, I always forget which button presses to use unless I have it in front of me

As I learned the hard way, the 2055 doesn't make some of the basic functions easy such as parking on a specific talkgroup. I know there is a way to do it using the Program button but it should be more straightforward than it is. As for the Open/Closed functionality, just bizarre, but that's the way they did it.

Yeah, I have it in my notes somewhere. The first thing can be a little interesting.....bringing up the TG you want so you can park. On my Uniden scanners this is pretty straightforward.

Having a button for hold like the Unidens. I'm not here to argue, they just cut some of the obvious features that people use a lot short.

They did NOT make the Pro2055/97 user friendly.I owne both and know people who owne the BC,and they deffinately have the advantage over me.

Agreed. Most of the functionality is there you just have to look-up or remember rather arcane key sequences. I actually did some workarounds so that I don't have to park.

Bizarre? Other scanners have the same functions, but they are called SCAN and SEARCH.
In my opinion, OPEN and CLOSED make more sense. When in OPEN mode it "opens" up all talk groups. When "closed", reception is closed to all talk groups except the ones you have selected.

It would be fine Dick if you didn't have to dig around to get to the Open or Closed.
My point with all of this is that the commonly used functions should have a dedicated key to make them accessible. If they want to bury the keys you only use occasionally for setup that is fine. If you don't mind their method that is great.

That means how it works, not how you activate it.
