I recently go a BC 95XLT scanner. I live about 1 mile from the mainline N&S tracks and about 3 miles from Clifton. I've loaded all the N&S CSX Amtrack & VRE frequencies in the data base. I'm using the rubber duck antenna. I get some traffic with voice and a lot of traffic that breaks squelch but has no modulation.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone in my area about their experiences and what antennas they might be using.

I've tried em' all over my past ten years of rail scanning. By far, the Diamond RH77CA is tops at pulling in those weak signals. They cost around 25 bux and can easily be found at ham radio shops or on the web. Of course to really improve reception, a rooftop gain antenna with good coax is the cream!!
