at 09:00 Monday November 15th. 2004 a Multi-Agency Mock Terrorism response drill will comence at the Texas Motor Speedway. per WFAA-8 in Dallas. this drill will include Federal, State & Local workers including Private organizations such as Red-Cross and RACES.

The simulation is to be a Plane down on the speedway. though they won't crash a jet ot TMS they will go to the extreem in this simulation with First Response.

DPS, FBI, FT. WORTH Police & Fire, MEDSTAR, TMS, DENTON CO. all agencies to monitor if you have the ability. Might consider listening to the Inter-operability bandplans as all area Hospitials will participate in this event.

The Media today declared this event successful. a "Dirty Bomb" was flown into the TMS. ALL Tarrant co. hospitals participated in this drill. The Hospital Emergency Radio Network was reported to have been activated. The only darn thing I heard all day was Denton Co. Fire (155.8350 PL:118.8) dispatch one call and Lake Dallas Fire get dispatched once to the drill. I guess for me to have got Denton and Tarrant Counties up here would have been a miricle. thus I did not. Nor did I hear any sort of traffic on the new U-Call and V-call INOP radio system. Nor could I ever get net control on Ft. Worth/Tarrant Co. RACES.

An Interesting observation to note however would be the media clip on some of the Communications devices in use. I did notice a Kenwood HT and a newer Motorola HT. But, all the media wanted to show were some bad High School Drama Actors and some really dramatic acting fire volunters.

I Hope someone out there was able to catch some good RF data on this.
I didn't!

A Federal Grant payed for this event. the drill was to see if Tarrant County and other participating agencies could communicate with each other. When all the data get's in, it is supposed to determin if Tarrant County needs to re-Invest in Motorola or Go else where.

I was working the scene of the drill, lots of communication was on the other amateur repeaters north of the Dal/worth area. alot of the hospitals comms took place on private UHF. Alot of the other scene comms took place the TMS repeaters and Talk around and a bit of public safety coordination took place on Tarrant County System with a bit on the Dallas Fire Ground Channels. The FBI and other federal agencies that were on the scene were also using their own as well as the other comms listed above. Many Amateurs were shadowing and providing much of the Communications all over the DFW area.

Well I don't think that would have been as possible if the Amteur Radio Operators weren't there doing much of the interop talk on there side.

Well for the Ham Radio Part they had a good sized RV Trailer that had many of the public safety radios in it as well as 2-3 net control operators running anything from voice to data packet. Aprox 25-30 operators participated and covered many areas of the metroplex and the scene to help coordinate.

Stephen is a member of Denton County ARES, as am I.

I was stationed at Denton Community Hospital with a 2 meter packet station and my Kenwood V7A mobile deployed as a cross-band repeater.

(the hospital is in a hole so portables couldn't make the W5NGU repeater from inside the building.)

I collected the list of triage-tag numbers and used the packet station to transmit that info back to Net Control.

We used the W5NGU 146.920 repeater for most of the net traffic with the N5EOC 444.700 repeater as our alternate.

Tarrant county wasn't really involved in the drill, though K5FTW was on frequency the whole time.

Excellent!
Was NAS JRB involved at all?
From the way it sounds the drill was pretty big.
In a real world situation I'd think the local military base would somehow be involved - or at least the local Guard units.
