With the deadline coming soon what are most agencys doing.. Are they getting new frequencies or going with new systems. I am about to buy a new radio and or scanner and I would like to buy something that I can use to hear a lot of different agencys..

Thanks.

The vast majority are simply adding a "narrowband" emission code to their existing license, no change in frequency. However, a number are also adding the emission codes to allow digital transmissions, at some point in the future. That does not positively mean they will switch to digital, only that they are licensed for it. Some, though, have gone ahead and moved to digital.

All of the current model Uniden scanners can be set for narrowband (NFM).

For the GRE manufactured scanners, the digital scanners can all be set to NFM, as can the PSR-310/-410. I believe, though, that the PSR-300 & PSR-400 (discontinued under the GRE nameplate, but still sold by Radio Shack as the Pro-164 & Pro-163) do not have an NFM setting.

That does not mean that you could not listen to a narrowbanded agency with those scanners, but audio might be at a lower volume than with a scanner set in NFM mode.
