A very strange satellite is about to go into Earth orbit. It's "SuitSat," an empty spacesuit thrown overboard from the International Space Station. Using a simple police scanner or ham radio, you can listen to SuitSat when it orbits over your hometown.

Somehow though, the phase "disembodied spacesuit" at the top of the NASA link sorta gives me the willeys.

Just a reminder if anyone is night owl tune in on 145.990 if this SuitSat is working. There also a website http://www.suitsat.org/ states that the suitsat froze after launch without warning!

Looks likes it say Oprah on it, but again I believe this is suppose to be a Russian space suit.

Expensive project that seems to have failed.

It appears SuitSat froze without giving off any good data. Unless SuitSat returns to life, this page is closed to further posting.

Wasn't very expensive - just a rig, antenna and batteries. $300? And it worked for a bit, so some on the ground did hear it. That would be an accomplishment in my book!

It appears to be transmitting! Just check the suitsat.org, Current thinking is SuitSat is transmitting, but far weaker than expected. Serveral reliable reports of short snatches of the voice and SSTV signals have been reported. It is recommeded that you continue to listen during passes over your area. Please report any postive contact only. SuitSat been up there close to 19 hours so far...there's still hope for it..
