• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Presents an interesting dilemma to NASCAR.
First they have to prove which radio transmitted, then what was said and finally whether or not the driver the verbiage was directed at is homosexual to validate a 'homophobic' attack.

Bill France must be rolling over in his grave.

I assume all the track comms are recorded somewhere. Hopefully they can figure out if it was a team member or member of the public.

This is a downside of not letting teams encrypt with a passthrough to a clear freq so officials and fans can monitor. When I worked for Ganassi's Indycar team in 2006 they recorded pit stops using a POV camera on the timing stand hooked to a VCR. They played these back at the shop during the week for analysis.

I figured they would like to have radio traffic recorded so I built a Y cable that took spkr audio from Scott's and Dan's car radios on the VCR's left channel and the pit crew radio on the right.

The first time they played the tape after I did that they had the TV volume up and didn't know/remember I had done this, all of a sudden Dan Wheldon's voice boomed out 'pitting in, pitting in', the mechanic telling me this said he almost jumped out of his chair because he wasn't expecting to hear anything.

I'd assume they tested DMR at some point but either both teams and fans would need better equipment and encryption would require massive coordination, instead of buying GP300, P1225, SP50 radios "racing kits" on ebay. The NFL has long used encrypted DMR helmets, lots of big money on that tho

I am sure they will change things up, encryption will stop the CCRs dead in their tracks from being overheard or making "cat calls" on the track, but one of these turd radios can still generate QRM on frequency if in the vicinity. More and more everyday, the venerability of legitimate radio users are put to the test because of the proliferation of these interference generators.

APX radios with encryption. Some are small and lightweight, and pass through clear for authorities (if really needed) could be done.

Back in the late 80s the Indycars started racing in Toronto. I didn't go the first few years due to customs regulations about selling and working in Canada. Doug Shierson and Shelley Unser used CSQ VHF radios so she could give him times for the sign board back when they used those.

Doug told me they were on a SWAT freq and the team was deployed for a sniper somewhere in the coverage area, he and Shelley heard the entire incident go down but the cops didn't hear them because they had PL.
