Short range. They are all using portables, about 4 watts. If you are more than 5 miles away, you won't receive anything.

NASCAR freqs

Actually there are 14 channels that we use in NASCAR at the different tracks, Channel assignments change as necessary due to Repeater status, number of support crews (EMS/FD, Track Recovery, Etc).
We may start out on simplex channel 3 in the morning for Practice, move to Channel 11 (Repeater) for Qualifying and end up on Channel 14 (repeater) for the actual race. Additionally we do use Digital when it is necessary as we did/do during the Daytona 500 and will do at other venues.

Also updated the wiki since it hadn't been updated since 2008. A lot of the freqs actually haven't changed since.

It was my first NASCAR race ever, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the pit crews.

If you have the EMS frequency leave it on while waiting to get out of the parking lot. After the race things can get exciting real quick. Will usually be on the tracks system.

I work at Texas Motor Speedway, and as soon as everyone got back to their camp sites after the cup race, they went crazy. We ran over 25 calls from end of race until 4:00 am.

2014 NASCAR Frequencies

I might head out to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend to enjoy some of the racing events and activities. Anyone have a link to a list of accurate 2014 NASCAR frequencies? Anyone have a Uniden .hpe file (or other scanner file) of NASCAR frequencies that they would like to share?

The Wiki page has been updated with current frequencies. There are some missing, and they do change on a regular basis. Wiki articles are free for anyone to make changes. If there are freqs that are not correct, or new freqs identified, please update to help out everyone.

I only see 1 mistake so far, it's the 00 David Reutimann.

Reutimann began the 2014 season without a ride in any of NASCAR's top three divisions, however in March it was announced that he would drive the Sprint Cup No. 35 Ford for Front Row Motorsports at Bristol Motor Speedway. However, he failed to qualify for the event.

Quote from here.

2014 NASCAR Frequencies

Nascar officials were using channel 1 and 2 at the Phoenix race earlier this month. They were analog and not MOTOTRBO.

Got tired of renting at the track and just bought a scanner (BCAT125), programming is easy with a PC and have a couple of questions regarding the CTCSS/DCS functions.

1) Do they need to be enabled and programmed properly?
2) Will the vendor's trailer have these settings or just the channel frequencies?

Noticed that the tones are not listed here: < http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/NASCAR>, so must not be critical, but would hate to have interference.

Seems to be if there was interference from a distance source that adjusting the squelch would cure it.

Tones do not need to be programmed. They will reduce interference, but also add complexity. If you use tones, not only do you need the correct frequency programmed, you also need the correct tones which are not documented.

The vendors like Racing Electronics will sell updated lists of freqs at the track for $5.

Have fun at the races!

NASCAR question

Thinking of taking a 6 year old to Dover in Sept.. How is the language on the radio? Don't want to bring him home to his mom with a new vocabulary.
