Hi!

A couple of days ago, Nashua Fire & Rescue were operating on their old VHF analog frequencies (dispatch and fireground). Now those frequencies are silent where the digital dispatch channel used to be simulcast on 151.25. Does anyone know whether NFR has finally given up on VHF?

Many thanks for your help.

Unless a major policy change, Nashua Fire will never give up on their VHF system. Quite possibly one of the smartest moves by any agency changing bands, they kept and maintained the entire VHF system and turned nothing off (current issues aside).

They simply built the 800Mhz system in addition to the existing VHF. All mobiles, portables and bases were kept. When they go to a neighboring community, they simply turn on the VHF radio, take their 800 portables out of their coats and put in the VHF portables. Plus they replaced all of their VHF radios in the FireNet grant. Just as important, when a neighboring community comes into Nashua, they are able to communicate with Nashua Fire Alarm; or during large scale incidents talk on the fireground talkgroup through the patch on 154.325 (again, any current issue aside).

I wish Manchester had done the same thing.

Thanks, all, for the info. VHF did eventually come back. I live next to a fire station and was a little concerned when i heard Ladder 1 go to a call I didn't hear on the scanner.

I wonder how NPD did their dispatch...FRS? ^_^
