Any of you guys up around Nashville hear much traffic on the ITAC's up there? I caught a rumor that the suburban agencies are using them to talk to Metro.

I once heard a Smyrna PD officer talking to Metro PD officer over 3 years ago. They were just testing out their radios as they knew each other and that has been about it.

If this had been used last night in the Robbery/Pursuit they had from Smyrna to Nashville. It would have been a big help for interagency Comms

I monitored the pursuit and did not here the 2 talking to each other.

Even the Newspaper made a statement that metro would not get involved in pursuit's coming into the county ( Davidson) because of this problem...

Yeah they had a similar problem a few years back with Goodletsville. I think they have solved the problem or maybe not. I haven't ever heard Metro talk to anyone out of the county. Maybe thats what the Unified Command/Ops is for. But in the long run last night it wasn't anything the dogs could handle. Of course now Metro's persuit policy is total BS. I wish they were able to do the PIT manuever. But i guess they can't up here. :(

Do you live in Nashville or where you can pick up Nashville PD? If so the unified command or unified ops channels, called either one, for Metro Nashville is channels (talk groups) A1-A8. That is where the FD, EMS, PD, EMA, etc can all communicate with each other. Of course each department has their set of channels but with the "Adam" channels they all can be on the same page so to speak. If you are within earshot of Nashville keep an ear out for channel A5 (48144) and you will see what I mean. They are using A5 during the Iraqi stuff at the fairgrounds. So there the EMA, FD, PD can all talk to each other. Also the airport has access to those "Adam" channels. Now i'm not sure which, if any, out of county jurisdictions are set up for those talk groups. But within Metro Nashville thats what the Unified channels are for. Just what it says, unified, all agencies coming together on the same channel for better coverage. Hope that explained it some. If not we'll try again. The talk groups are in the database and accurate.

The 800 MHz band includes the nationwide common-use frequencies specified by the National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee (NPSPAC), these are referred to as ITAC frequencies. These are conventional 800 MHz frequencies used for repeaters, or simplex communications not as talk groups on any trunked radio system. They are designed and designated for inter agency or mutual aid type of communications, and to augment the normal emergency communications in the event of a disaster or scenario that would cripple or destroy the day to day infrastructure of a local, state, or even federal agency. This also allows for a back up system in case of a trunk system failure, or for communications with agencies who do not have a 800 MHz trunked radio system, or may have a non compatible system.

I don't see why Tennessee TRSs don't have a tg patched 154.755, or even have three 37.260, 154.755, and 460.400. That way they could talk to just about anyone entering there county.

The worst problem was the Smryna's dispatch apparently lost contact with their own officers. I think the inter-ops issue is many times over-hyped, but this was a case where two agencies did need to talk and couldn't.

10-4 on the ITAC frequencies your talking about firemedic. As far as I know there aren't any. Conventional, non-trunking that is.

If there are they must not be used much because interoperability has been an issue in the news here.

I can't tell you who uses them and with what volume of traffic but I do know that metro does maintain a repeater on NPSPAC Calling Channel. I have tested it every so often by keying my radio and I get a repeater tail afterwards. The operators at the consoles have access to it but I don't know if they leave that turned up where they can hear it or even on the screen as a resource.

Their is a repeater in Nashville set to the ITAC, however, no one uses it, or really knows that it is there.
