During the storm last night a new talkgroup came up on the public safety system. TG 31152 appeared to be direct communication between the National Weather Services office and the Nashville Office of Emergency Management.

Crazy Guess

Do you think it is possibly a simulcasting of NAWAS traffic? I was at our NWS in JXN last night doing skywarn stuff, and that seems to be the kind of traffic that usually goes out
over nawas. Makes me conjecture that maybe your local EMA folks made a patch talkgroup?

Just a thought

It did not appear to be any sort of simulcast. The weather office was referred to as "Nashville Weather Office". The discussions focused on weather statements that were about to be released.

That tends to support my guess

Well from my exp. at the NWS, that sounds exactly like the kind of traffic that went out over NAWAS, esp. last night.

Right here...
TEMA has what sounds like a ROIP connection to a radio on the Hamilton County Emergency Management talkgroup on the Chattanooga system and when they use it it shows up with a radio ID. I can hear the simulcast of information over the NAWAS as you described on it during sever WX operations. I know that within the last several months Motorola has made available a line card for the Centrecom consoles to enable connection of the NAWAS direct to consoles. This would allow TEMA to multiselect TG's,UHF,VHF, and NAWAS or anything alse in their consoles and simulcast it. It would not show as a patch on the system unless they are tied into the controller of the system. You might want to watch this TG around midnight, TEMA does a radio check with our EOC/Dispatch at 0100 eastern every night which they ID as 0000 central, they may check this type of connection on other systems then also.

This is my last post on this topic. The conversations were very informal. There were no weather statements announced like there is on some of the TEMA frequencies, just chit chat about what was going on.
