Hi all new member here, I see the database reflects both counties low band frequencies are not yet deprecated even though they both have tons of UHF frequencies & trunked systems in place, since I only have three low band receivers with crystals for 46.1 MHz (Nassau County) 46.46 MHz (Suffolk County) & 45.88 MHz (Nationwide Fire Mutual Aid) will that be enough to hear all of both counties dispatches? I am not interested in fireground, tac, admin or anything like that or must I invest in an all band scanner to hear all the dispatches? Also do I need a digital scanner or is everything analog? Sorry about all the questions.

Both Nassau and Suffolk still use low band. BUT - Not every department in either county uses low band.

Here is the clarification: some departments will tone out on their respective low band frequency and also go out on their UHF frequency, while other departments do not use low band at all and stick with just their UHF.

Keeping a radio with 46.10 and 46.46 will get you most of what is going on in the county, but not 100% all of it.

If you want to use the same low band scanners you have - then you would want to get the crystals for 46.32 and 46.20 and that will give you better coverage as far as Nassau goes
Low band is actually still used quite a bit in Nassau and if you dont want to get too complicated you can actually get a somewhat decent gist of what is going on by simply scanning the low band county/battalion wide channels - this may be subject to change in near future however due to manufacturers no longer making low band pagers...

Going forward what i would reccomend to you is invest in a Uniden BCD996xt - it is a modern digital scanner with trunking capabilities - not the "latest and greatest" as it is a few years old now but that being said you could probobly get a reasonable price for a used one on E bay and it will keep you covered for certain departments moving to their own dispatch channels and just better coverage in general for higher capacity of channels, trunk, etc...
Both Nassau and Suffolk fire depts have access to digital trunk systems however they are basically only used during large scale incidents involving multiple departments and mutual aid
The Fire Marshalls in Nassau use their talkgroup on the Police P25 trunk system for their daily operations
