Between Noon and 1 pm, today I heard two comms on the Trace repeater system about new frequencies.

1. Dispatch (700 unit) directed a ranger to goto the "new" channel.
2. A ranger chewed out another for not having his radios programmed, complaining on the radio, that he had no radio.

I realize they have had a number of problems with the current system, as I have heard several on the air complaints. If the repeaters suddenly go silent, I'll have to try to search around and see what i find.

If you find the "new" channel, please let me know what the frequency is. I thought I heard them this morning say go to the old frequency. What frequencies do you have for the natchez trace parkway ranger dispatch?

Switchover Complete

Heard on the air, switchover to new channel, 6 on their radios is same as
old "A", 7 is "B". So I gather it's still VHF HI, since traffic seemed to indicate they were using the old radios.

The switch occured at 10AM today.

So that makes it like 10 total chans possibly..... have to find 1, 2, 3, 4 for the new ones.. since we now know what 6, 7, 8, 9 are.

New Digital Activity 165.6

I was sweeping 164-174 mhz. Found a new (new to me anyway) signal on 165.6, fairly active. Sounds like apco25. But I don't have a p25 scanner, so I can't confirm.

Seems like a possible candidate for 171.675's replacement, with my reservation being that it seems a little too active.

Well.. i should have a PRO-2096 by July if things work out right.. So i will see what I can do then..... But it would be logical to assume that if they are running in P-25.. it'd be on ALL freqs.... Soooo most likely they are analog still... Encryption is a possibility with the rash of more serious crimes in the last few months....

165.6 signal

I heard alot of traffic on this freq. which I haven't heard before,
it was data of some sort, sounded like p25. But I do not have
the capability to decode p25 at this time.

So I do not know whether the data was carrying voice or not. I heard
nothing "in the clear."

ALL DOI agencies (that includes NPS, BLM, and many others) will be switching to P25 systems very soon. This has been known and is a federal mandate to go narrowband. Dept of Interior has choosen P25 digital, USFS (dept of AG) have said they will go narrowband analog for now, but is looking at P25. Expect to see most National Park units digital by to end of the year. Some DOI agencies here in California have already made the switch.

Also, law enforcement activies are required to have encryption capablities with the new equipment.

Natchez Trace Parkway Frequencies

I do know they are doing a system-wide upgrade to Motorola Astro radios. When this is complete they will switch to narrowband APCO 25.It's my understanding law enforcement will be encrypted most if not all the time. They are adding some additional frequencies as soon as I can find them I'll post them.
