Anyone else been hearing anything like the attached over the past few weeks? It seems to always been "Nighthawk" and "Bluegrass" on 139.3500MHz and 241.000MHz.

Mike, you are hearing helos talking to Mt Weather (BLUEGRASS). One of your recordings was MUSSEL 06 calling BLUEGRASS. MUSSEL flights are all UH-1s and are based at Andrews AFB. The NIGHTHAWK flights are larger helos (Blackhawk UH-60's based at Quantico) and become MARINE 1 when the President is onboard. Flights in and out of Mt. Weather are pretty common. BLUEGRASS, BLUEGRASS Tower and BLUEGRASS OPS are all Mt. Weather. From traffic I've copied in the past on 241.0 there are at least 3 helo pads there referred to as H1, H2 and H3.

thanks a lot for the info. I'm not new to scanning, just never lived anywhere before now that had any military or fed activity. so, monitor both are kind of new to me. thanks again.

do you have any other freqs for air traffic for Mt Weather?

The NIGHTHAWK flights can be VH-60Ns, VH-46s, VH-53Ds or VH-3Ds. The VHF equivalent for 241.0 is 126.2. I've only heard it used once. They may be going encrypted on 241.0 eventually based on what I heard a few nights ago with NIGHTHAWK-12. I hear them much better than Mike does.

The MUSSELL flights can be heard with MUSSELL CONTROL on 292.2, occasionally on 287.6, 141.7 is their company freq.

Re: Mt. Weather helipads/241.000

Hi guys,

Add helipad H4 heard on 241.000 on 05.31.2007, see msg #2335 in the Sticky Thread For MilAir II in the Maryland Radio Discussion Forum.

Too bad that they will be going encrypted soon, I had not heard that!

Best regards,

Tony
