This Sunday's Republican American, Naugatuck Ct going to flip the switch on new radio's. Looks like they are going to use Motorola with encryption, Fire Dept and public works will also get rebanded. Here is a link to the news paper not worth much in reading as you must be a paying customer. Police might switch to new radios this week Republican American Anyone else has or gets new info post it here.

That "news" story is really lacking in real detail. Are you certain that they intend to encrypt and are not just going to digital without encryption?

Trust me I agree the story is very lacking info we all want. The newspaper is all the info I have.

<QUOTE: The city's upgrade also included technology that would encrypt the frequency.>

I have started looking for more info, FCC was my starting point, but nothing so far. Like I said hope that others will jump in and help us out. I really don't know where else to look but Motorola's site next.

As of today Monday 10/15/12 we are still connected to 460.350 and working. I would guess that when that's dead, game is on to figure out what is next. If they go Encrypted...well, they win for now. Nothing found on Moto's site or Ef Johnson? So anyone's guess from here............Game on!....Again

According to the newspaper, Naugatuck PD is going digital with no mention of encryption.
The bounced around from Naugatuck to Watertown, back to Naugatuck and then to Torrington where they mention encryption, so they were talking about Torrington not Naugatuck.

453.400 Is the new channel 2 and is 100% encrypted 24/7
460.350 is channel 1 and is going to be changed over as soon as channel 2 is all set and working so they can go to that while they make the changes to channel 1.
I hear its going to be encrypted also.

All is dead quiet! Where is the ACLU when you need them? How come I can no longer listen to my tax dollars at work? This means the Fire department is gone. It also means the town workers (the biggest goof balls) are now flying under the radar!

They should not be allowed to encrypt their signal as it's a matter of public record!

FYI the way I understood the Torrington issue was they were having problems with the encrypted signal and had to revert back to a non encrypted signal.

Cheers

Relax...The pd CH1 is still analog and you can listen for now. Fire, PW & EMS are not changing anything.
When PD goes to digital they should encrypt. If you want to listen to the communications you can go down every morning and get a CD of the day before radio traffic. No one ever needs to listen to PD communications live, it’s a fun hobby but if you want to police the police then get the recordings, you don't need to know what’s going on as it happens.

And in P25 the encryption has no bearing on radio communications, Torrington is having a digital issue, nothing to do with encryption; they had to go back to analog from digital because of a very poorly designed system.

I hope everyone knows now that you don't have to listen live. Thats a great idea on the everyday visits for a CD. Maybe we can all just smash our radios now.

I think anyone smart already knows all that, and that its the proper way to do it. Also anyone that wants to keep listening does not post about police and encryption on here because they know that it leads to more encryption.

Salesmen from every radio company use this site as a great reason to buy encryption with your new system, and people here make it easy for them to sell it. You print out some of the whiners posts on here with:
“I pay the cops salary” “I’m a tax payer” “We need to hear what they are doing” and on and on and any police department will jump at encryption and pay more to do it.

If you believe this site has not been some of the reason for more encryption, I have a bridge to sell you :)

jon,i'd like to buy the golden gate bridge. Do you have that for sale or is it sold already lol

on a serious note,i was always told that they encrypt because some crooks use scanners to use in a crime so they know where the cops are and know where they are looking for them-

I know that was an issue in Bridgeport.

I like to listen to whatever whenever I want, But I can't fault them for wanting to catch the bad guys any way they can.

me to,we have a right to listen but they go on and encrypt, but i dont blame them due to officer safety such as the swat teams and drug enforcement, they would get ambushed if a criminal knew where the cops would be entering to arrest them, but on another note the public can assist if they hear something going on in their area and keep an eye out for a crook.

It wouldn't surprise me if the local radio companies were on this forum, and use the info they find to sell encryption to the local PDs.
