Hello,

Have given up trying to receive any Navtex on 518 KHz.
Won't reiterate my tales of woe, as I've posted them before.

Have a 60 foot simple long wire end fed ant., a 9:1 UnUn, and
a coax run up to the house. Using an Icom R8600 receiver.

But, thought I would try some of the other higher frequencies, but am a bit confused
over their usage.

For:
4209.5 kHz

Is this transmitted (together) in the same time slots as the normal 518 KHz ?
From the same ant. location ?

*Any other frequencies worth a try ?

What success do you folks in the Sudbury, Northern Framingham, Mass. areas have ?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi BOBRR,

The NAVTEX system has two transmit frequencies in MF:

- 518 kHz for messages transmited in english.
- 490 kHz for messages transmited in the local language of the coast station.

There are a few coast stations that transmits in the HF frequency 4209.5 kHz, because it is only used in tropical areas where the MF reception can be complicated due its propagation characteristics.

They are located in the following NAVAREAS:

III: Istambul (Turkey), Crete (Greece).

IX: Ismailia (Egypt).

XI: Nha Trang (Vietnam), Guangzhou (China), Hai Phong (Vietnam), Shanghai(China), Tianjin (China), Guam (Guam, USA).

Hi, BOBRR,
It was years ago when I picked up anything on 518 or 490. When I listen too navtex these are the frequencies I tune into, some of these frequencies I have to tune off frequency to get a good signal, it just depends on the radio conditions. I listen mostly at night and have good reception on these frequencies. You may have to tweak the frequencies to get good signal. I use Multipsk software to decode the signal but there are many software programs out there that decode navtex, some you buy, and some are free on the internet.

All these frequencies work for me down hear in Fort Erie Ontario Canada, hope they help you.
