NBC cites DC “police scanner audio”

SC Senator Lindsey Graham died early Sunday, 7/12, with NBC NEWS citing scanner audio as the source for their reporting on police/fire/EMS response to Graham’s home. Given the encryption notations on most talk groups in the RRDB, how are such audio recordings possible, beyond that done by the agency itself? Of the few non-encrypted DCFD groups, is that the most likely source? I was actually surprised to see unencrypted groups in the RRDB in use in WDC.

According to RR DB not all are encrypted. Only those with e/E in mode column are encrypted.

Also, radio traffic about McConnell was reported as well. These guys are not going to like the medical stuff they want to cover up being out there in full view. Feds have a lot more control over D.C. than other cities.

Unless they switched to a talk or tac channel denoted in the RRDB as mode "DE" then ops went over the air for all to hear. I'm not familiar with how DCFD operates over the radio but dispatch & main ops are listed as clear as is every mode "D" talkgroup

1: I treat media use of the term "Police Scanner Audio" with a grain of salt. I think they are being overly broad with stating their source.

2: On good ole Mitch, I wish I had a dime for every call I responded to that was a "Full Arrest and CPR in progress" only to find a patient sitting up and talking. Probably as many as there were "heavy smoke in the house" that we could barely see.
