I'm headed back down to the OBX next week and I'm looking for the freqs used by the ferries, particularly the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry. Last time I was there I saw them using both marine and commercial radios. Just wondering if anyone has info on there system/radios/freqs.

-Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.0.4; C811 4G Build/C811M020) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/29.0.1547.72 Mobile Safari/537.36)

Last time I was on that ferry I remember them using just the standard marine frequencies, unfortunately I can't remember which ones.

I hope you don't hear anything on 16... That's emergency call to USCG. As far as the commercial radios, I would guess they are using those on 13 and leaving the marine radio on 16.

Confirmation that Maritime Channel 14 (156.7 MHz) is indeed being used at the dock in Hatteras. Traffic is concerning how many more vehicles can be loaded. Running sweeper, but so far the only other traffic has been on CB channel between two vehicles on the ferry. Will post any updates.

Keep up the good work! I love OBX. It's just a matter of time until I'll be done there and listening again.

Maritime Channel 17 (156.85 MHz) is being used at the ferry dock at Ocracoke. It is monitored by the booth operator, and was used to advise of a vehicle needing priority loading due to a medical emergency. Not EXACTLY on-topic, but Maritime Channel 9 (156.45 MHz) was being used by Anchorage Inn & Marina to direct a vessel into their dock.

Not trying to be too picky, BUUUT....

The word maritime refers to a vessel on the high seas(outside the territorial waters of a nation). Marine refers to vessel in the territorial waters (interior and offshore out 3nm). The reason I bring this up is the use of maritime channel (incorrect) vs marine channel (correct). Marine radios=vhf fm; Maritime radios=hf ssb. Just pointing out the differences so please no flames or brickbats my way!

I stand corrected. Thanks for the information, as I was never aware of the distinction between the two.
