Hi all, hoping to find some help here. I do a lot of monitoring of milair in SW Ohio, and there are three AV-8Bs that have been flying out of Wright-Patterson AFB for a little over a week - I can't find any information on it, but they may be TDY from Cherry Point. OTIS KC-130Js are here almost every day, presumably to drop off equipment (the initial flight in brought 72 pax as well).

I found the A/A frequency on 308.200 (which some searching turned up as VFA-223), but I can't seem to pinpoint their A/G communications. I've heard them say several times that they were "switching to base" - I assume U1 or U2...U4 is KFFO Tower, and U3 is probably KFFO Ground. Does anyone have suggestions of where to look? I've been searching 225-400 mHz AM, but haven't come up with anything yet (maybe I should check FM?).

Also curious about their "ordies" who meet up with them before takeoff and after landing to handle armament. Would they have any voice coordination with the pilots, or just visual signals?

Any help is appreciated.

6:48 pm/et: The pre-race flyover features a C-17 and a KC-135 from Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma. The two planes will perform a simulated refueling over the speedway. This is the first time the maneuver has been performed at a sporting event.

Hopefully the same frequencies from the May race are used. I should be able to get another easy video of this after they pass the track. If anyone knows of any possible air-to-air frequencies, it'd be nice.

This is from an old list, but try 307.400 Squardron Ops. This list also has the same A/A freq you have. I think it's VMA-223. V= Fighter, M= Marine, A= Attack.

EXCELLENT loggings, Jared......Thanks !!!

yeah, 308.2 is their main interplane freq, use it constantly......

I especially like ur IFE report...last week a MARS flight of AV-8B's was doing landings at Bogue Field here and all of a sudden one of them reported " the @#$%#@$@ just fell into my lap !!!! " THAT can't be good :)

Thanks again

Does anyone know anything about the blackhawks stationed out of Salisbury for the Nat.Guard? What do mil helos usually operate on? I've noticed there's usually low freqs (usually around 30 MHz). Anybody had any luck in hearing them or getting a peek at the cockpit at a freq. card?

Thanks!

I did a search for Civil Air Patrol in the NC section but nothing relevant came up.

I heard CAP 3408 calling 3409 (not the exact numbers) on 148.150 analog, and later on heard
the same person calling on 150.5625 analog which is labeled as AIR 2 in the new narrowband
plan (see Civil Air Patrol - The RadioReference Wiki). I did not have my BCD396T
or I would have snagged the PL tone.

Also a few days ago I heard P25 on 148.150 with a NAC of 40B loud and clear in the Raleigh
area on the relevant repeater. So that repeater is mix-mode capable now.

Cheers...

CODY 01 (KC-135R, unid) departed Wright-Patterson at 1735Z for KCHS. It was here overnight after dropping off an aeromed crew following training; I could barely make out the tail flash but I think it was green and yellow, which would mean it's from the 916th ARW. They should be arriving at Charleston within an hour or two - I would assume they'll call PTD 372.200 since they're a transient.

There's some pretty good mil air comms in the Charlotte area today, both ops & UHF ATC.

324.600 - Refueling Ops with DRAGO 51 (79th FS, Shaw AFB) (IDed as 88-000266)
343.800 - DRAGO 51 calling Atlanta Center
224.600 - TOMCAT 4#? in contact with center (And no, it's not a typo of 324.600)
285.500
354.100
269.150
269.550 - Unknown Aircraft in Contact with Jacksonville Center
#57.320 - DRAGO 51 pushed to this frequency, never heard a him come up on 257 or 357
118.925 - Tanker in contact w/ ZDC.

Not the best info collected so far, but it's a start.

365.250 - Some practive ops of some sort. Talk of watching a target at a gas station. Coming in really strong in the Charlotte area. They just started and told ATC they'd be up for about 45 minutes. IDed the freq as JTAC or JTAG #99.

324.600 - ROSCOE81 (C-17 Charleston AFB) refueling on AR207.

Okay, maybe it was a typo.....either that or some crazy HAM is talking to Atlanta Center now...
My bad.
