State helicopter N123NC has crashed at the corner of Garner Rd and Tryon, about 200 yards from the helicopter hanger at the NCSHP Training Center. Reports say pilot is okay, Raleigh Fire Engine 10 responded for hazmat (fuel) cleanup. No additional information is available at this time.

It will be called a HARD LANDING
Looks like a AUTOROTATION that did not have enough STORED ENERGY in the rotor system.

Autorotation / ˌɔ toʊ roʊˈteɪ ʃən / Noun
Definition: A scientifically designed method to keep your hands and feet busy as you fall to your death.

But seriously, glad everyone walked away from it.

This is the Second helicopter the NCSHP has crashed.

The first one didn't even get off the transport trailer.
Are they trying to take off too fast, and forgetting to do preflight checks; or are there training issues?

Lots of taxpayer money here going down the drain.

that training center is for helicopters what florida is for people it seems. that was where the first crash happened too wasn't it?
Yes, the first crash was at the NCSHP Training Center also.
The first helicopter didn't get 5 feet up.

IIRC, a retaining cable on the trailer that transported it in was not disconnected.

I am guessing that people are hurrying along, and not going thru pre-flight safety checks.

Remember that if you don't go pre-flight checks in your car, when it quits, it just stops, and rolls to a stop, no one dies.
If you forget your pre-flght checks on an aircraft, when it quits, you crash and maybe <die>

yeah i remember thinking at the time, it seems like LANDING that sucker ON THE TRAILER would have been the hard part........

or they could have been patient, and gotten it off the trailer the reverse of how they got it on....

not going thru pre-flight safety checks.

hopefully there will be an investigation by the NC Dept of Public Safet......Oh....right....
