Has anyone noticed that Channel 2, which is being used extensively for Sandy related operations, SOUNDS digital?

It shows up as a conventional channel with a tone, but I wonder if it is a rebroadcast? The voices sound digital.

All the old conventional NCPD frequencies are rebroadcast of the P25 trunked system. That's why they all sounded digital.

You can follow the UIDs on the TRS and listen on the UHF. The units on this channel are mostly BSO [900s] and up state Troopers [zone-troop-unit]. I believe NCPD calls this County Wide 1. It's TG 1002 on the TRS.

Is this related to the augmented patrol in the storm hit region? Sounds like 4XX, 2XXX and 3FXX units responding to local disturbance calls

Yes. And those appear to be State Police units, based on the numbering.
